Oi you Muppet!
Easy on the 'Bra Man' bit! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif
My car ain't been wearing it for a while 'cos it's being modified (the bra that is). Now that I've just aquired a 99 front bumper, I'll be wearing the complete set, panties 'n all!!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif
Watch this space.....

Stef.
PS Glad you like the mod though.

Scott J Davies 25 October 2000 12:23 AM

He he

Stef, BURN YOUR BRA, see you Friday, Brands can't wait.

Scott J Davies 25 October 2000 11:18 AM

I had the Bumpsteer mod done yesterday and what can I say, unbelievable.

It has transformed my cars handling into what I always expected it to be. The car has less/no understeer, more feedback from the wheel, 10 times better stability throughout cornering, it is just amazing.

I know you have heard it all before, but it was because of an earlier thread that I had my car done (thanks Bra Man). If you want an unbelievable transformation get this done, the chaps at Powerstation are the Puppies Undercarriage and nice to boot.

munna 25 October 2000 03:24 PM

stef...is that the RB5 front sploiler??

paul w 25 October 2000 09:28 PM

Hi chaps,

scott, stef, did you actually think the standard handling was crap when this is what you had or only after experiencing the mods did you think this.i find standard ok,(havn't been on track though)only get understeer on wet roundabouts, feels totally stable fast country lanes.
cheers

paul

Scott J Davies 26 October 2000 12:01 AM

Right, sit on your hands I'll get an answer!

Stef 26 October 2000 12:08 AM

Tyre wear should be less if anything, as there is no camder at all (at least on my car). Therefore, long motorway jaunts won't be so harsh on my rubber.

Stef.

Scott J Davies 26 October 2000 12:16 AM

He he

Just spoke to Rik at PS, there are no negatives......yipeeee.

If anything it should create less tyre wear because the tyres are more parellel creating less scrub.

Nice.

Stuart Knight 26 October 2000 12:29 AM

£40 and the right colour, they might as well have paid you to take it away!!!!

RussP 26 October 2000 12:50 AM

Scott

Just had my geometry reset (My Sti still had the original Jap settings) and the difference is unbelievable - i mean it even goes round corners now instead of trying to carry on in a straight line. The understeer is gone and good riddance!

Tyre wear on the original 3mm toe out was awful too, the front P7000's only hung together for 6000 miles.

Theres been lots of talk about the bump steer mod and it may have to be the next job! You say its the best £ for £ so... what did it cost?

Russ

Scott J Davies 26 October 2000 09:59 AM

Hi Paul

I didn't think the standard car handling was crap, I just thought it would be so much more capable if the front end was properly set up. This is what the Bump Steer mod does to the car.

The car now handles like you know it should.

Munna,

That RB5 bumper Stef was after is still in my back garden, so I guess he didn't want it after all!!

Stuart

Anyone else want it??

Stef 26 October 2000 11:34 AM

Stuart, Munna.
Sorry guys, I managed to get a bumper for £40 in the end. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif
And it was the right colour.

Stef.

blubs 26 October 2000 11:43 AM

Scott,

Does it increase wear on your front tyres?

blubs

Scott J Davies 26 October 2000 11:48 AM

To be honest I don't know, it was a question I was going to ask but I forgot.......Doh! I particulary wanted to know as I had the Prodrive Geom before BSteer mod which does kipper your tyres quicker. It may say on the Powerstation website but I am to lazy to look http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif

dela 26 October 2000 11:55 AM

I've asked this before, but it didn't really get resolved.

Are there any negative aspects to getting the mod done? (Especially if you share the car with a not-so-competent other half?)

cheers,
Dave

munna 26 October 2000 02:13 PM

stuart:-you'e still got the front bumper?..it is the same one from Risboro 4x4 is'nt it?...how much do you want for it?....

SDB 26 October 2000 02:30 PM

OK Chaps...

Tyre wear is definitely reduced and is more consistent across the tyre...

There are no mechanical disadvantages, but....

If you are sending your wife and kids out in it, you should be aware that it makes the car less prone to understeer and more prone to oversteer...

Understeer is deemed by manufacturers to be safer for the non-skilled driver than oversteer.

The Powerstation set-up is NOT dangerous, but it DOES make the car less forgiving by definition, as it makes the car follow your instructions more accurately.

Dave
If you wife drives sensibly, there will be no problem at all, in fact it will be safer as there will be better turn-in etc in an emergency, BUT, if she's a bit of a nutter and is (as you say) not that skilled behind the wheel, you should be careful or send her on wetter the better or something.

Cheers

Simon

Bump-steer removal - it sounds too good to be true!

Questions:

1. What parts of the car are affected by loss of warranty due to modification? (6 month old UK MY00)

2. What do the insurance companies have to say about this modification?

Rich http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Jake 26 October 2000 03:20 PM

I too have a 6 month old MY00 and the only thing holding me back getting this mod done is the warranty issue???

Jake

dela 26 October 2000 03:21 PM

Scott and Simon, thanks for your replies.
I love my driving but am not that mechanically minded, so I just wanted a behind the wheel impression of possible pitfalls from people who understand this stuff.

Scott - My hands have gone numb, can I use them again http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Sorry about that had to pop out for some Octane bosster for Brands http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Russ

I presume you are talking about the Prodrive Geom, this is good, however you do get increase Tyre wear. The Bsteer mod gives the Geom benefits ++ and it doesn't give you the adverse tyre wear.

Rich

I asked the PS guys about this and they said it shouldn't effect your warranty, check it with Subaru UK.

If your insurance company wants to increase your premium because of this mod then I think they are taking the Pi55.

Dela

You need a bigger Keyboard http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif
