Whats the max power figures ecutek maps at?

Just interested to see who's done the most powerful scoob (2L or 2.5L etc) with standard ecu, ecutek and still using MAF?

Neilo 11 July 2006 09:19 AM

from what i can make out you can rescale the maf to keep going high, with bigger inlet tubing and suchlike....but tbh, i dont think you personally would see much more power.....im sure 500 is possible.

swisstonihasher 11 July 2006 10:57 AM

500 eh, hmm.

I've got 440 bhp and I'm finding the ecu flags faults on missfires and the idle is poor, although that partly relates to the 285 profile cams (which I knew would be ruff). She even cuts out on idle at times, even though she's set at over 1000 rpm now instead of about 750.

I seemed to find that using the existing ecu with these sort of power figures costs more in the long run as the remaps are more difficult.

Anyone else running these sort of figures from std ecu? What troubles do you get?

Neilo 11 July 2006 11:00 AM

well im looking to push up to near what you are with my new turbo, although i do have a few limitations in truth.....but i woudlnt have thought it was too much of an issue at that power level currently....

you can run mafless on a tek3 though.

Neilo 11 July 2006 11:01 AM

what size injectors are you using?

swisstonihasher 11 July 2006 11:20 AM

BLimey, didn't know that...MAFless on Tek3 - how does it know the mixture required?

I'm running PE 800cc's so plenty big enough. 450/480 is the figures I'd like but SC said I need chance ecu.

I really want the cut outs on idle, misfires and the ruff running to be sorted, but I have doubts the ecu is upto it.

Neilo 11 July 2006 11:34 AM

hmm interesting, same injectors as me, so if its mapped right you shouldnt have any issues with idle on that front so maybe it is your cams.

In terms of it wanting to cut out i wouldnt have blamed the ecu for that.

At this level, and assuming you can afford to then sure, change the ecu....but its still probably possible with and ecutek....hopefully some of the mappers will pop along soon and clarify...

The last time I dyno tested my Ecutek setup was at 434 BHP and 395 lbft. It started, idled and cruised like stock. The only issue was part throttle mid bend lift off MAF jerks, but all MAF based ECUs seem to do that with a FMIC, even a stock Evo does it a bit.

Since then I added a larger turbo and I think it was in the 450-500 BHP range when I found the structurual limits of my engine - repeatedly ;)

I then changed to PowerFC and removed the MAF and had a larger turbo still. And again found the limits of my engine then sold up as there was no sensible/proven fix at the time for a 2.5 450-500 BHP Subaru road car.

Bob Rawle's car is about 500 BHP on a built 2.0 and he can run his OEM ECU on that.

swisstonihasher 11 July 2006 12:05 PM

Interesting read there. Seems 500 bhp isn't beyond the ecu then, although prob beyond the engine - I'd like somewhere near that, 450/460 bhp with more torque.

I know what you mean John re the hunting as I've already had it a little (dont mind putting up with that), just dont like the misfire readings and the cut outs.

Truth be known I no longer have the spare cash to "burn" on changing ecu etc and boost controller (due to mortgage and debts from mods). If I could get the tiny bit extra power and not have the two above problems, I'd be a very happy chappy.

swisstonihasher 11 July 2006 01:17 PM

Do you think Bob would be able to sort my car and get reasonable idle on 285 piper cams?

Neilo 11 July 2006 01:26 PM

he's a legend at most things, so im sure he could give it a go....hes much more local to you too, based in swindon.

swisstonihasher 11 July 2006 01:38 PM

As with all mappers, he's a nightmare to get hold of yeh?

Neilo 11 July 2006 01:39 PM

not usually, generally he checks his email in the evenings....

i agree, some are a mare to get hold of ;)

swisstonihasher 11 July 2006 01:41 PM

OK cheers m8, I'll run my spec by him and my current situation and see if he's interested.

Bob Rawle 11 July 2006 10:51 PM

Emails exchanged ... btw for reference I can't call back if a number is withheld, I had three of those as missed calls today. Oh and the 0208 number on the web site won't get to me at all since its the office number in Richmond, I am in Swindon. Email is best.

best regards

bob

Talks (email) going well with bob, looking forward to the finish product!:thumb:
