Holiday in Egypt - Advice required!!!

Hi all,

Has anyone here been to Egypt...?

I am thinking about going to Taba for two weeks...

Going to stay in the Marriott but have a few questions surrounding excursions... Want to know whether it is easy to book safe and professional excursions whilst out there and whether they will be cheaper than from the tour operator...

Also looking to do my PADI out there so any suggestions or advice welcome!!!

Thanks in advance...!

Not been to Taba, but have been to Sharm 3 times in last year!

We stayed at a Mariott Renaissance Hotel each time, if the Taba one is as good you wont regret it.

Didn't bother with excursions as I was too busy diving but the snorkling trip the tour operator ran was more expensive and on a more crowded boat than the one from the hotel dive centre. My advice would be shop around as the tour ops like to have full coaches and boats on trips but the smaller local operators are happy to have 2 or 3 people!

If you want to do your PADI course get the open water text book before you go, read it and complete all the knowledge reviews and take with you. This will save you time in the resort (just the praticals to do then). Open water course in Sharm is 260 euros plus 70 euro certification fee.

Any questions let me know

I've been to Hurghada a couple of months ago and ended up having medication and going on the drip. Place is nice but alot of people suffer from sickness for the first day or two. Taba is further north and you'll see more armed soldiers there. After a while you'll forget about them. When going to the markets always barter and get things for less than half the price!

I would definately recommend snorkeling and Quad biking. Really really good.
I bought and took my own snorkel and fins and it was well worth it. (You can hire it over there)

tips

hold on to your mask, reg and weight belt when you step in...

comical half somersaults instead of giant strides result in a nose full of water and a quick descent to chase after one of your fins

also remember to attach your first stage before jumping in too

it's great fun

Hi guys,

Thanks for all your input there! Anyone know how many pounds to the Euro at the mo!!!?!

Rob sounds like I will book when I am out there based on what you have said...

Chef - I want to see the pyramids as well hence Egypt.

From a health point of view do I need to take any med pre the holiday? or get injections etc...?

Also how much is the quad biking?!!!

Thanks again! :D

the valley of the kings isnt that great to be honest you also have to pay extra to seen the kings tomb. we didnt have any injections before we went you can take anti malaria tablets instead of having the injections :)
