Peugeot 206 cooling problem....
 

Hi,

My missus drives a 206. Its an '02, the entry level model, 1.1 Look.

The problem is that the car overheats if its sitting in traffic. The cooling fan isn't starting up. I have checked the fuses under the bonnet and below the steering wheel and they are all ok. She didn't get the manual with it for some reason, thats why I had to check them all!
The fan isn't seized, and is quite happy to spin if pushed!

Does anyone have an idea how to fix this problem, or is able to explain to me how to shunt the control so the fan runs all the time?

Could be the relay - or sometimes on the old Pugs the thermostat gets stuck - not sure if it coudl also happen on the newer ones?. Relay is usually on the actual fan shroud facing you if you remove the grill - maybe behind a plastic cover on the shroud (on the 306 it's behind a black circular cover) - and is a cube type thing.

You can get the fan to run all the time - but it might continue to run with the engine off (the problem I encountered on my S16 recently) for this to happen you remove the plug from the thermostat - but think you're better off checking the relay first. There's also a controler for the fan (a little ECU) which can fck up too.

Have a look on Peugeot Sport Official Owners club for more info. (GTI6 is better site I reckon - but only really for 306s and occassional 205s...).

If you want a good specialist then go to Collin at Pug Performance (in Hampshire) - really good bloke and will sort you out.
