350bhp mods
i am hoping to gain 350bhp out of my car before i finish with her
can somone tell me what is needed to get this also with the support mods needed i have a turbo back hks system and its about to get uprated clutch and flywheel done so what else |
what car model it is might help ;)
|
sorry i have a wrx version 1
|
STI, RA etc 93/94
|
just a wrx 93
|
Just had my 93 type ra mapped after fitting said parts and I’m guessing its approx 320 brake/300 torque. I bought:
550 injectors Front mount Self ported headers Harvey smith uppipe 3” decat from turbo Apexi power fc ecu AVC-R boost controller Uprated clutch and LW flywheel. Turbo blanket Heat wrap for down pipe and headers Remap of ecu So your looking at around 1800(+ 850 for clutch and FW fitting) quid if you can do all the work yourself as I did (less mapping) Oh and don’t forget brakes and shocks on top of that price |
plus the gauges and ideally knocklink at that sort of power ;)
You pretty much need to spend what the car is worth to get it to that level. |
Correct, I paid 2700 for my car and spent around 3700 on it. You can use the fc for your knock link so that saves 150 then!. Think we've scared him off with the cost.
|
not scared off with no price have spent 2 grand almost on the car in 3 months so i'm willing to put money into the car
i am getting a full service done with the clutch and flywheel start of next month then i will get started with the engine again. is there any sort of order in which this should be done if i was to buy say a k&n induction kit , apexi boost controller , walbro pump , front mount intercooler along with a remap is there anything else i would need with this |
Price scared me mate once i added it all up! You will need a turbo blanket as the pipe for the fmic run's over the top of the turbo. What ecu are you using?
I would fit all the bits you have/are buying, make sure it runs fine then get it remapped. You should be looking at a fully mappable(spelling) ecu power fc, gems etc I would think about some ported headers and an uppipe as well. You will need bigger injectors as well 440 or 550's maybe |
i just have a standard ecu right now , is it better to get another one or do standard ones remap the same.
ok so if i was to get these k&n induction kit apexi boost controller walbro pump front mount intercooler ported headers up pipe and 550cc injectors what bhp would you be looking at |
IIRC Cant map the standard ECU I'm afraid.
|
so a Apexi Power FC & FC Commander would fix that problem
|
You seem to be missing the most important thing off your list :)
|
which is :wonder:
|
Whats your car like at stopping at the moment? ;)
Plus, Im not certain on your MY car so if anyone else knows for definite please correct me but to get 350bhp you may want to consider putting an SX fuel pressure regulator on and possibly a turbo upgrade (may be a VF28/VF34/35 etc) (Oh, and an Apexi or similar will def be required) |
i am aware of bigger brakes etc
i just wanted to know what engine parts are required to get to this mark this is about as far as i want to go with the car 350bhp and wanted to know what parts and supports were needed to get this this is my first subaru and dont know a great deal about them so have asked here to give me a guide so if you do think we have miss something out please say |
Turbo :thumb:
|
Then again, are early WRX's fitted with a 16G? If so - forget i said it :D
|
is the 93 wrx fitted with the td04 or td05 or is it something else
|
it should be a td05, however if its been in this country some time it may have a turbo from a breakers which may not be a tdo5
|
and that will be the 16g then
the car has no invoice with a turbo but that means nothing , |
Should be a 16g which is capable of 350 bhp, and yes you will need a fuel pressure regulator.
I gathered all my bits over a good few months, then got them all fitted at the same time. Its much more cost effective and you only need to have it mapped once. For info, this is what it cost me: HKS Headers + Wrapping 425 H&S Up-pipe 90 550 Injectors + fitting kit 400 Exhaust - Turbo back 470 Fuel Pump 100 Fuelab Regulator 200 Apexi PFC & Commander 450 Apexi Power Intake 100 4 Pots 200 Apexi AVC-R 270 HKS FMIC 450 Oil Catch Can 0 Braided Hoses 65 Standard Discs 35 Mintex Pads 60 Gauges (oiltemp/press + AFR) 210 Gauge pod 65 Knocklink 150 Fitting above + porting etc 600 Mapping 300 Sundries 200 Total 4840 I still have another re-map to come to get my power up a bit, with more boost. |
my my00 classic wrx wagon is running 300-320,just been mapped and set up.i obviously had to change the turbo as mine came with a td04 to start, now a td05 converted to front entry to fit.....collected all my bits off here mainly with the exception of a couple which i got off other subaru sites, mostly all second hand too which cut the costs considerably if your wiling to wait a little longer for the upgrade
td05fe s/h £275 spare sdandard headers s/h £35 porting headers £30 harvey smith ported up pipe £75 breather catch can new £45 wing resonator removal cold air feed pipe fitted free simota panel filter £30 decat down pipe s/h £80 heat wrap new £40 i/c tilt kit and splitter new £30 2004 wrx i/c s/h £80 i/c samco Y pipe s/h £40 forge vta s/h £40 classic fitment swapped by forge for a new new age fittment free autogauge oil temp/pressure and boost gauges s/h but box's never opened £80 autogauge afr gauge new £40 ( inc pod price to mount) walbro 255lph pump new £80 earthing kit s/h £40 apexi pfc with commander s/h £360 3 port boost solenoid s/h £50 set up and mapping £325 i saved a great deal by fitting all the parts myself, although turbo, headers, and up pipe is reportadly a bitch to do at times, mine were ok,if a little fiddly refitting the turbo..... this you miht not have to do depending if you stick with your current td05 90 degree unit so total cost...... and this is the first time ive calculated this is £1735 which is about prodrive pack money for a lot more power :thumb: also upgraded the standard wagon 2 pots to 4 pots s/h £200 and nearly new grooved and drilled black diamond discs s/h £40 car ame with sti suspension already fitted so that saved some upgrade money so a grand total of £1980 in the year ive owned her;) good job the wife dont get on here might realise why we arnt sunning ourselves somewhere :D but not including the £400 spent on full service and cambelt before i added the mods..... to make sure she was fit for the job mapper considers the above spec capable of 320 ish, with the fuelling its at and running 1.3 bar peak boost and holding that..and i doubt you might feel the extra bit to get to 350,but might welll cost you a bit more money,as my injectors as standard are up to the job 440's yours will need replacing,90 degree td05 might not flow as much air as the fe converted one, although i cant confirm that....have fun;) martin |

I personally would still consider a turbo upgrade to ensure you get to your desired target and as for the injectors, you might as well go for the 550's even if you find some "cheap" 440's as at 350bhp I imagine 440's would be right on their limit (which isnt advisable). And just to re-iterate, you will need an uprated fuel reg to make the most of the injectors/fuel pump. Just to give you an idea of price on 2nd hand turbos, I will be selling my VF28(which before anyone says anything, is already sold to someone) for £250. Im not sure what VF34/35's go for... but its worth keeping your eye's peeled for bargins. Speaking of bargins, as mentioned by several people, keep checking the "For Sale" section on here as you'll save £££'s by buying as much as you can 2nd hand (but I shouldnt bother with injectors - worth buying new as you'd need to get them flow tested and probably cleaned) One last thing - (as per rigga's advice) - have fun :) |
comments based on feeling the extra power was made by my mapper, who stated it was hard to tell if it was an extra 30bhp or not on the road.... the higher the power figure i guess it would be difficult to tell yes... 215 going to 245 would be noticable, but at higher figures the rush you are getting is immence anyway.....just my feeeling and i might be well wrong, but there must be some sensative bums out there ;) .... vf 35 would be a good choice for earlier spool over a td series unit, although td will give more at the top end i believe..... i was advised the standard regulator would be fine,so never upgraded that item,i could do in order to run more fuel pressure that the walbro can deliver, and therefore lower the injector duty cycles...currently at 92%...but my original target was 300/300 and ive managd that fine as it is..... choose a target and spec your mods for that depending on the experience and knowledge of the person who is going to map the car...... mine knows far more than i will ever know
and it is fun |
Id agree, the VF35 would be a very sensible and good upgrade.
And as for the rest, I agree entirely and Im glad that you pointed out what your original target was, as sometimes it can get a bit confusing when someone has asked for advice on how to achieve something and getting advice from people that wanted to achieve something slightly different where there is slightly conflicting info (such as fuel reg or no fuel reg etc)... if that makes sense? :D Anyway, we're all in agreement so hopefully, dean/abz - you should have loads of info here to get you on yer way. One last thing would be to decide what ecu to go for and then what mapper you want to use. Once you've made your mind up, I dont think it would be a bad idea to get intouch with your chosen mapper and introduce yourself and tell them what you are wanting to achieve and what advice could they give you - and they'll be able to supply to the hardware. In my personal opinion, id go for the Apexi Power FC with the FC Commander and tie that in with an Apexi AVC-R boost controller. Jeff. |

I'm running approx 320 brake with standard FPR with no issues....yet! |
Fitting above + porting etc 600 - I wonder who did that!:D
Dean - as per your SIDC PM, costs for your service will be on their way very soon.............along with a list of mods you'll need for around 350bhp! Russell, BHP Developments |
cheers russell
