Detalarm Fitted
Took a couple of days including faffing around but my 'Introduction To Soldering' mini-project seems to have been a success. As i don't live with the parents anymore i had to buy my own soldering gear so got a nice (inexpensive) Antex Iron with stand and set abot soldering! The kit was one of Roojais 'Detalarms' and for half the price of a Cocklink is a bargain IMO.
Having (almost) no soldering experience prior to this i fully expected to screw it up on at least one front, be it the soldering, wiring or LED installation. It all seems to have gone well though and a quick check with the digital camera set to 'Movie' reveals all five LED's light up nicely when the block is tapped with a screwdriver, something my Knocklink never did. Although not a new place to mount the LEDs i'm quite proud of the finished article especially as it is possible to mount the Detalarm on the binnacle and not leave it flapping about behind the dash. http://www.fecker.co.uk/scooby/cooli.../detalarm1.jpg And fitted. Red LED on the right so in good view while watching the Tacho needle hit the big numbers. :) http://www.fecker.co.uk/scooby/cooli.../detalarm2.jpg DIY Tech Edge Wideband next then! :D |
excellent fitment :thumb: how much if you dont mind me asking? james :)

that is one of the smartest and best DIY mods I have ever seen. Well done.
Can you do a "How To" for the people that would like to give this a go.... Parts? what goes where? wiring etc etc |
Good job :thumb:
Where did you get the Det Alarm and how much was it?? |

Great job there Carl :thumb:

did you modify roojai's kit because the ones he has on ebay have the LEDs enclosed inside the casing?
|
Very good and very neat. :)

Thanks all. :) Yes, i extended the LEDs and mounted them in some LED holders. Everything required is available from Maplins for peanuts - that's wire, heat shrink and holders. Quite a common Knocklink modification as the box is so cumbersome.

detalarm by roojai
looks like a v.good job done by carl:thumb: and i also can vouch for these litle knock sensors developed by roojai :thumb:
i have recently fitted one after being advised by Carl Davey and Andy at ESL and can safely say they do what it says on the tin and have helped me to determine a safe boost level on my modified 1995 jdm wrx impreza with excellent results. if anything you do buy one of these before you decide to up your boost or bigger turbo etc. as i know first hand what a bigend knock sounds like to my great expense:mad: and the fact that these engines although technically brilliant are also very fragile! |
