The Royal Family! Fantastic value.
Last year, the Queen cost less than her European counterparts
The Queen and the Royal Family cost the UK taxpayer £37.4m in the last financial year, her financial public accounts reveal. The cost, equivalent to 62p per person in the UK, rose 4.2% over the previous year, accountants said. The increase was partly blamed on extra security vetting undertaken at Buckingham Palace. It followed a national newspaper exposure when a reporter obtained a job as a footman there. Royal Public Finances summary [164kb] Freedom of information inquiries and the cost of a number of long-haul overseas visits by members of the Royal Family, also contributed to the rise. Travel costs increased by 10% to £5.5 million. 62p would buy you a ticket for one minute of England's game against Portugal on Saturday. Chip |
You could put another 1600-2000 police officers on the street or nurses in hospitals for the same amount for a year :)

I never argued that fact. There is no king of France, but plenty people visit Paris :)

She spends most of her time living up the road from me anyway, she's not daft. I just can't work out what it is she does these days :lol1:

Justice: The Queen can, on ministerial advice, pardon or show mercy to those convicted of crimes. In law the Queen as a private person can do no wrong: she is immune from civil or criminal proceedings and cannot be sued in courts of law. This immunity is not shared by other members of the royal family. |

Just out of interest, cos I honestly don't know, does the government pay rent at proper market value for all of the crown properties they use?
|
I assume it's rent free?
|
Otherwise we'd be paying the goverment to pay the queen :lol1:

The Queen and all the senior Royals do a lot of good work. Having been to a couple of her garden parties at the palace and after seeing my mother being honoured by her last year i've learnt a lot more about just how much work the Queen does - it's a lot, far far from an easy life. Having done it now for 50 years (a normal persons working life is what, 40 years ish?) she deserves all our respect :)

How much income from tourism does the Royal Family generate? More than £37m I shoukld think
|
How much revenue does one speed camera generate ? more than £20,000 :norty:
|
The tower of London alone brings in over £25m annually.
