First Real Modchip For The Xbox360

Not great news for 360 game developers, but impressive work nonetheless.

We are proud to introduce the first real Modchip for the Xbox360!

The NME-360 enables your XBox360 to play backups of your highly valuable original games. NME-360 is a universal solution for ALL currently available XBox360 Consoles on the market. Forget crazy dual mods with 30+ wires or even bricking your DVD drive by flashing corrupt/wrong firmware files. Your original firmware stays untouched and intact at any time when using the NME-360. There is no need for any firmware-reading or flashing.

Simply install the NME-360 with the special easy to fit pre-wired cables (4 cables for Samsung, 11 wires for Hitachi/LG) and you are done...

NME-360 - the clever solution:

The NME-360 autodetects the inserted media. If the inserted media is a backup NME-360 injects the necessary information to the DVD drive enabling it to boot smoothly ahead! If the media is an original game, or anything else, which doesnt require any further action of the NME-360 then it simply falls asleep so there is no need for an external switch whatsoever. This way it can not be detected online when you play an original onlinegame.

:o a chip with no switch still allowing the playing of Live :notworthy I bet it doesn't come cheap once released.

Not seen the new cases before?, just can't help thinking the HD will look sill as it won't match.

That is fantastic news. Look forward to it's release :)

I agree, impressive engineering etc. Sounds perfect with not having to worry about manual switching etc.
Shame about the impact it could have on the console though :(

Iain Young 21 June 2006 01:16 PM

Impressive reverse engineering on the console etc, but what's the point in having one?

The only possible purpose I can see is to allow people to pirate games, or use "trainers" to give them unfair advantages in online games etc. Doesn't sound like good news to me. All it'll do is damage the games industry. I hope MS crack down on them very hard, and soon...

I can't see it being a threat at all, to play on Live you will still have to have the original game and the 360 is all about Live and not playing off line surely? The number of people who will only want to play offline will be minimal so no great loss in revenue to the industry.

Iain Young 21 June 2006 02:38 PM

So what's the point in making it?

STi wanna Subaru 21 June 2006 02:40 PM

I think you can play on live with the backups.

Bravo2zero_sps 21 June 2006 03:05 PM

Until Microsoft do what they did with the original xbox and make Live detect anything modified about the box and permanently block access to Live for that device.

get the latest builds of both :)

What will people do if/when they install one of these chips and then their xbox goes belly up (potentially)? I doubt MS will honour any warranty or even fix out of warranty. It's an expensive decision/choice to make.

It's a dashboard skin for XBMC that is based on the new 360 dash.

RB5-Black 21 June 2006 06:55 PM

just finished installing and tweaking and it's great :D M360 that is

looks just like the 360 only divx out of the box and no nasty windows media connect :D even gets your gamertag from xbox.com on the dashboard

well I'm off to watch Ultraviolet now :p

Your all a bunch of tight arses. The games only cost 40 quid, who cares about an illegal chip that saves you a few quid here and there

Hello

I have a modchip for my original Xbox and I use it to play television programs that I download. I use it more for that than playing games. That functionality for the 360 would be great without a modchip -- the ability to download codecs or something using Live.

boxst try the M360 skin for Xbox media centre it's amazing. Looks like 360 with all the functions you had before.

the way the chips work on the 360, you can play copied games online ;)

Iain Young 22 June 2006 09:22 AM

Excellent news for the software industry....NOT :(

Excellent news for Live! play then :( How long will it be before the games are hacked to give the modded people an advantage.

Least with the original Xbox you couldn't use the copied games on Live!

You cannot do anything to the games to gain an advantage as they wont play. They have to be exact 1:1 back-ups.

The mod tricks the drive into thinking the DL-DVD is a 360 DVD. If anything is changed on the back-up it fails security checks and wont play.
