I'm (slowly) rebuilding my turbo-technics Sierra, a turbocharged 2.8i XR4x4. I predict that it'll be fun to play around with once I've got it sorted, which could be sometime before christmas if I'm lucky. Has anyone else owned a TT conversion in the past? Just wondering. :D and what did you think of it?

Which version is it? Should be plated under the bonnet. I think they did two verions around 230 and 260bhp and an awesome 320bhp verion that was very expensive.

I had a mate with the mid version in a Sierra and he had no problems with it, a workmate had a Scorpio with the mega version fitted and it never ran right.

I had a 2.9 4X4 around 10 years ago and it was the most reliable car I have owned (10k to 40K miles), sounded spot on with the twin 57i K&N's and Scorpion exhaust, very good to drive as well.
On the downside its also the only car I've owned to average less than 20mpg other than the Scoob and its not a patch on the performance of that.

I hada 3dr rep a while ago with a JANSPEED 2.8 turbo conv.

intercooler 3/4 size of rs500 one, 7th injector, oil cooler, and a HUUUGE turbo (t3 compressor, but exhaust housing way bigger than a t4, and an external wastegate).

Wudnt rev above 5 grand and didnt boost at all (cam worn, and wastegate jammed open).

Ripped the seller off, str8 swap for a ****ed 1.6 205 that i bought for £150, sold the front seats, and front bumper and a few other bits for £900 then sold the rest of the crap for another £850. it was a bag of wank but the best profit i ever made...

The money was soon spent on my REAL 3dr...

Can you still buy these kits? A friend of mine has a 2.8 capri and did talk about installing a turbo although he is currently lusting after a V8 conversion.

I think mine's the 260 version, it's had flowed, ported heads, reduced compression and differetn exhaust valves, but no sign of strengthening the crank or conrods.

You see the conversion kits for sale sometimes, ;ast one I saw was going for £450. it'd be nice on a Capri but the V8 conversion is probably better. more power and longer assured engine life - the 2.8's aren't strong really and aren't much lighter than a small block V8.

I have a 2.9 XR4x4 twin turbo. Awesome is the only word :D It was running at about 250bhp, it was a 225 conversion with a 280 dcu.

I am currently building a 4.0 SOHC engine with the twin turbos, should be good for 350bhp :D

If you need to know anything have a look on http://www.xroc.co.uk/forums as there are a few people there with 2.8 single turbos, a few with 2.9 twin turbos and a supercharged 3.1!

I find the XR4x4's very reliable to, I have a NA 2.9 with 160,000 on the clock which regularly gets thrashed on track days:D
