ive got a UK MY98 no mods, currently running on normal unleaded,
anyway my questions are:

1. is this 95 RON?
Yes
2. is 97 RON super unleaded?
Yes
3. will it make any difference to my car ie. performance etc etc?
Probably, I found with my MY00 it's made loads of difference

4. do i have to do anything special to the ECU?[

Yes, you will need to do an ECU reset.

5. is it worth putting in my tank?
The adage goes, your mileage may vary. It's worth trying for a few tanks to find out.

Chris, the higher the RON (octane rating) the hotter and more compressed the fuel can be before it combusts without a spark.
If the fuel combusts before top dead centre the car will knock (used to be called pinking) and its bad for the engine as the explosion takes place at the wrong time in the cycle.

UL is 95 RON and standard UK scoobs are setup for this. 97 RON is SUL. Jap imports are setup as standard in Japan for 100 RON which you cant get in the UK.

You can always put better fuel (higher RON) in the car but you cant go the other way.

As you tune a car (remap, chip, increase the boost pressure) you must increase the RON of the fuel or add an octane booster to avoid knocking.

Kippax.
