Woo-Hoo - 14 days and no NIP

Thought for certain that I'd been got whilst in Cornwall the week before last. After some fun on the NSL bit I slowed to 30 for a village, noting the (s)camera signs on the way in. Down a slight hill, 3rd gear holding 30 nicely, no houses yet. Round a right onto a slightly steeper hill, very slowly building a little speed through gravity with one or two houses, the village desolate like a scene from The Omega Man. A slightly tight right, the car now up to 40 so a slight dab on the brakes to prevent any further acceleration and 150 yards down the hill, tucked in behind a bus shelter I spots the b@st@rd. Quickly shed the remaining speed down to 30 and glided past him, certain he'd have got me. I then turned and went back and video'd the whole village, and took photo's of the limit change at the start which fortunately didn't comply with the RTA 1991.

Would have been sorely pi$$ed if I'd got the NIP having driven with care and consideration, and only been over the limit slightly by virtue of gravity. I fully appreciate that the odd pedant may say I should have been in full control and ensured that the hill didn't allow my speed to creep up, but on a beautiful sunny day in the middle of your holidays, passing through a pretty village devoid of human life I feel I drove as sensibly as was needed. The only bit I'm worried about now is that they may be allowed more time if the ANPR thingy couldn't automatically read my plate is it is slightly (90%) undersized. The limit signs should still get me off though :p

That's incriminating enough ^^ :lol1:

I don't say whether it's mph or kph :p or which road through which village

My daughter is a WPC. She says they only normally check speed with a gun when they see the bonnet of the car dip due to guilty jabbing of the brakes. This could be an advantage for Scoobs with stiff springs as the effect is less noticeable.

My springs are rather stiff, AST's set to 6 IIRC that day :D

That's why, IF I ever found myself in that sort of position (a bit above the limit and noticed the police with a speed gun), I'd shut the throttle and/or use the handbrake. No brake lights either that way. You'd just have to watch for anyone up your chuff though ....

Dave

PS: all the above is strictly hypothetical and has never been tested by myself at any time ...

My friend wrote off his Focus ST170 with a rather dramatic spin, crunch, 3 complete rolls and 100 yard slide on his roof by using the handbrake.

Dont be silly! :nono:

Well if you're stupid enough to yank the handbrake on...

Glad you got away with it Corradaboy, only slightly above the limit. Trouble is, they dont care if it is caused by gravity, in fact they love that since it all brings in the cash.:(

That tip of yours Hutton brought back the memories when we always used the handbrake to kill the speed if we saw a police car appearing on our tails.:) That was in thse good old days of speedcops instead of spycams of course. They were the guys who caught the bad offenders without insurance or just pissed!
