ESL group buy

Hi guys & girls,

New to this forum, noticed I've missed the chance for a group buy on the ESL daughterboard for <96 impreza ( scoobyecu -a-like ) would anyone be interested in repeating the GB ?

ss.

speedy steve 11 July 2006 01:05 PM

I've just been PM'ed by Andy who says the previous GB offer is still open i.e. if we can get 5 people together in a GB then 175 inc vat & delivery , obviously each chip mapped to your own car spec.

Is anyone interested ? :wonder:

SS

orbix 11 July 2006 05:16 PM

I would be.
If we can get 10 people :lol1: does the price come down to £150ea?

Waza 11 July 2006 06:12 PM

if the group buy is still open, i'd be interested.

orbix 11 July 2006 06:22 PM

What it does

Just thought I'll would add this so people know what it is.

The ESL ECU Daughterboard has been designed to allow pre 1996 Imprezas to be remapped. It has been designed to emulate the long obsolete Fujitsu 27C1028 EPROM. Using modern design and surface mount production techniques ESL have overcome the issue of obsolescence and will be supporting this product for the foreseeable future.

The key features of our map include:

- Increase in boost to 1.1bar

- Improved boost control

- Modified ignition timing to make the remap suitable for UK super unleaded fuels without the need for Octane Booster

- Removal of the vehicle speed limiter for imported vehicles.

The product is suitable for any pre August 1996 Impreza. Different maps have been developed for different cars so ESL would need to know the model year and model type when ordering.

Hi orbix & waza,

glad to see someone else is interested in these things, Andy never mentioned the 10 for 150 part of the deal but seeing as that was the previous GB price I doubt it would be a problem.

although chances of getting 10 people organised in a GB are probably pretty slim :lol1: i've never tried to organise one before but based on watching others it looks like it can be a lot of hastle for people to "keep the faith" till the end of the GB :wonder:

Heres hoping theres a few more responces..

ESL 12 July 2006 11:26 AM

Hi guys

I think the 150 for 10 offer just confused the issue last time, so I reckon 175 for 5+ will keep it simpler.

I'm aiming to be at Uxbridge autoshow for a while this weekend and maybe JAE at Peterborough the weekend after if anyone else is going and wants to discuss requirements/have a software demo etc.

Anyway, back to Steve, give me a shout if you get to 5.

Best Regards
Andy

How much for these fitted?

Mines a 95 JDM WRX.

In the last GB there was talk of having to solder a socket onto the ECU or something. Where are ESL based, is it possible to drive to them and get it fitted.

MMT WRX,

You would definately need to ask Andy that one, I didnt get the impression that ESL are a drive through type setup. I think they would do an exchange ECU i.e. they send you a premodded complete ECU & you send them back your original afterwards, effectively zero down time, this would no doubt cost a bit extra but if your really worried about the soldering work it may be a simpler ( if more expensive ) option.

Alternatively you could just order the board & socket & get your local TV repair & electronic shop to do the job for you, I plan on doing this if I think the jobs too delicate for my big clumsy fingers :lol1:

well thats us up to a possible 4 ? me,orbix, waza & yourself ? loking good so far
:luxhello: :luxhello: :luxhello:

keep the faith & hopefully someone else will join up too.:thumb:

Thanks, I will get in touch with them. They are partnered with 'Performance Turbo Systems of Luton' here so I was sort of wondering if it could be done this route.

I really dont fancy bu33ering about with this myself.

orbix 14 July 2006 11:26 AM

As I understand it their are 3 options:

1. You buy their chip and they also supply you a socket.
2. You send them a ecu and they do the work for you for additional cost.
3. They send you a ecu with the chip on and then you send your ecu to them(exchange). This option costs the most.

MMT WRX 18 July 2006 09:26 PM

Bump

I will sort this somehow :thumb: I have a mate who is an electronics guru maybe he will do it for me.

Waza 20 July 2006 02:48 PM

Hi guys,
I may need to pull out if we don't get a 5th taker soon.
I want to get my car sorted fairly sharpish.

There must be another taker out there!

maybe Andy would do a deal for the four of us.

I'm thinking the same, I can wait until the end of the month and that's it.
I have all the other mods I want ready waiting to be fitted and I think I need it to happen altogether.

OK, I can also wait till the end of the month. I have my electronics man on standby, hes looked on the esl site and reckons no problems. Keep bumping to the top for another punter. :thumb:

ESL 20 July 2006 07:09 PM

Hi Guys

I've had questions from other interested parties but as none of them have registered their interest on here I'll honour the deal for the four of you. Payment (175GBP) by Paypal to service@enduringsolutions.com quoting Model Year, type (WRX/STi/UK), 4 or 5 door, manual or auto.

I can fit the socket while you wait if you want to come to Cambridge. It takes an hour to do, but I have got GT4 with a wheel on a 42" Plasma if you get bored :) Either that or I can do it by post but the ECU will be out of the car for a couple of days. The fitment fee is £50 either way.

You can get me on service@enduringsolutions.com for any further questions.

Best Regards

Andy

ESL 21 July 2006 12:48 PM

Guys in case you have been trying to get hold of me this am, 1&1 internets servers are down. They have assured me they will be back up again in 2-4 hours, in the meantime I'll keep an eye on the scoobynet messaging system as a fallback. Youll know when my email is working cos my website will be up again. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If anyone can recommend a reliable internet provider I'm all ears :)

ScoobieNoobie 21 July 2006 03:18 PM

Hi all still bit 'green' to scoobies havin just got my MY93 Jap WRX (GC8A48D) 3 weeks ago.

Its got the 'W6' ECU in at the mo, will the ESL daughter board fit straight on or is there a list somewhere stating which ECU's need a slot adding?:wonder:

Interested in joining the group buy ya see :p

Cheers for any info...

orbix 21 July 2006 05:11 PM

I'm pretty sure you'll need a socket soldered on to your W6 ecu that will fit the chip.
I think your running a TD05 turbo so this chip should give you some big gains. Although use the search facility to check which turbo your running.
Alternatively contact ESL.

orbix 21 July 2006 05:43 PM

Money sent ;)

ESL 21 July 2006 05:56 PM

Got it Chris ;)
I'm back online!

Waza 21 July 2006 06:50 PM

MMT WRX 22 July 2006 10:13 AM

I have sent Andy(ESL) an email, I would like him to fit it next Friday if possible. :luxhello:

Managed to get a hold of Andy and join in on the group buy:D

Hopefully fitting it tonight depending on how the soldering goes...

I'll report on the good results when ECU's properly sorted its self after the reset.... Cant wait!!!!

MMT WRX 29 July 2006 04:36 PM

Mines in and working

Thanks to Andy @ ESL

Top bloke...he installed mine yesterday :thumb:

Trialled it on his personal test track ;) and there was a slight improvement: better pick up at low rpm and holds power at high rpm. Andy did comment though that mine was one of the quickest WRX's he had been in   and the gains aren't as great on a Z4 ECU.
I do think its improved even more since, we covered about 200 miles on all types of roads coming home, via Cambridge and Wells Next The Sea and the only fuel we could get was Total 97 ron. I had a quick squirt up the By-pass to Sheffield this morning and the cars performance is definitely better. It also, not that I will ever experience it, gets rid of the 112mph speed limiter and more importantly for me, no more octane booster. I will see how it performs with some Tesco 99 soon.

It took Andy about an hour to do and to be fair, unless you have experience with a solder sucker and iron I reckon your better to take it to somebody who has or take it to Andy.

Overall I reckon its worth the cash and ESL will look after their customers.

Also, thanks to speedy steve for starting the Gb off. :thumb:

Cheers

Mick

ESL 29 July 2006 07:56 PM

Thanks Mick

We didnt get time to do an ECU reset so the difference will come through more slowly. Didnt think we would have got away with much more car related behaviour as the passengers looked restless (hope they had a good day afterwards). It will probably pick up a bit more advance on Tesco99 if you can get hold of it easily.

That is the mintiest WRX I think I've ever seen! A pleasure to work on, and a bit of a missile given its on the standard airbox and downpipe!

PS The Reds got interrupted halfway through by a pair of gliders that strayed into the zone and wouldnt move even when a red flew underneath them with smoke, so they only got half a display in and were not best pleased! The CAA is tooling up as a result :O

Thanks for travelling so far for fitment.
Andy
