STi's and Red manifolds

Hi All,

I'm looking at buying a classic WRX RA, but i've seen pis of the engine and it doesn't have the red manifold i thought all STi's had?

Is this a misconception?

Thanks in advance,

David

all STIs from version 3 on had them as far as im aware so very early ones may not.

Davie 15 June 2006 11:21 AM

That would explain it. This one is a '93.

Cheers!

Neilo 15 June 2006 11:21 AM

sorted. :)

On another note, what is different from the early RA's to the later ones?

Do the early ones still have 280 Brake etc. I notice is has I/C spray.

WRX RA and WRX STI RA are 2 different things as far as I know. check SIDC FAQ, but I think a 93 WRX RA may only be 240bhp with a 7k rev limit.

Anyone clarify?

Davie 15 June 2006 11:34 AM

The pics show a 7k red line, so you might be right. It's also limited to 112mph, but de-limiter comes with the sale apparently.

Peanuts 15 June 2006 12:56 PM

there was no stiRA until 95

Far be it for me to start another scoop war on Sccobynet - but I would leave the limiter on! Old scoobs go pop at rpolonged high speeds - some people would say that because the japs only R & D upto 112mph, the scoop doesn't work at higher speeds! Zip.....on goes flame suit:freak3:

Hmm. this one is on an M plate. If i've got this right it makes it a 94 / early 95. Is that right?

jonny gav 15 June 2006 05:57 PM

if its on an M plate it will be an MY95 so it could be an STI RA (275PS) or a WRX RA (260PS)

the STI RA had a red manifold, the WRX RA did not

any pics???

Check the Applied Model Number; itll end 47D making this a WRX Type-RA; an STI Type-RA is a completely different vehicle.

Peanuts 16 June 2006 07:11 AM

look in the drivers door shut for a metal sticker, will have sti on it.

GC8 16 June 2006 09:34 AM

Not in 1993 it wont ffs! Why is there such amazing ignorance over Type-RAs with people expecting 'red top engines' and DCCD when theyre looking at an early car, that was actually the cheapest Impreza that you could buy?

RB5_245 16 June 2006 10:05 AM

It also wont be M-Reg if it's a 1993 'ffs' ;)

Always trying to be clever; and always falling short.....

So you do know how to find a '93 on an M plate then...

'WRX 93M' might be worth some money, but I doubt the plate in question was suffixed 'M' ;)

GariYaRally 16 June 2006 12:45 PM

Some early 95 RA's didn't come with red manifolds.........

RB5_245 16 June 2006 12:47 PM

Yup, WRX RA - silver manifold, STI RA - Red manifold (amongst other things)

Think we have this one sorted? :thumb:

GariYaRally 16 June 2006 12:49 PM

Sorry, post should have read;
'Not all STI RA's came with red manifolds'

RB5_245 16 June 2006 12:58 PM

Was this possibly with the 1st of the STi engines? I do remember reading somewhere about earlyest sti's having less output and lower rev limit, before the V3 possibly?
