996 TT or not.......... ?
 

Well I got this kind message from s/n, so I thought I'd post since its been a while ;)

Hello Gastro it appears that you have not posted on our forums in several weeks, why not take a few moments to ask a question, help provide a solution or just engage in a conversation with another member in any one of our forums


I've got a 2003 996 C4S with 14k miles and love it to bits. Always wondered about a TT - but effectively it'll cost me £10k to make the move.

The PSE (Sports exhaust) system on the C4S is unbelievable and isn't an option on the TT because the turbo's baulk the vacuum pipes for the siwtchable sports exhaust.........

I'm not doubting the performance of the TT - just wonder in this modern day with Gatso's around - is it worth contemplating a TT/£10k for the same car but another 100bhp and no noise :confused:

I'm looking at buying my first TVR mainly because of their lovely sound.

Put a Exhaust Muffler Bypass on a TT as I did with my 993TT. It is some 30KG lighter and makes a sensational noise without being too intrusive in the car.

I think you're right to question the need for the extra power though on UK roads. I used to think the same with my 996C2 - even the normally aspirated 996's are only really coming into their own at license-losing speeds.

The only way to decide is to test drive one I guess.

Now a 993TT is another story altogether......... don't get me started on that !

I went from a 993TT to a 996TT 4 months ago.

Thought about getting a 996 4s, but drove a TT. No comparison - much quicker.

And if Im spending £45K upwards I want a car that is quicker than evo/scoobys :lol1: :lol1:

Although realistically, a 996 or 996 TT is more than quick enough for every day driving. The TT just has more "street cred".

My friend has one, IMHO it must be one of the fastest point to point road cars you can buy, as a passenger it borders on terrifying when its performance is used on the road.

I can't comment on feel, steering brakes etc as I've not driven it and wouldn't have a valid benchmark if I did, however it is fast, fun and "special".

Whilst his TT was in for the last service he had a 997 4S Cab, which (as a passenger) I found quite disappointing by comparison, felt very flat and not particularly fast, like many moderns cars its power was delivered in such a linear fashion it just didn’t seem quick, although I’m sure it was. However to drive I thought it was lovely, and the exhaust note was pure joy, a truly fantastic noise that I can’t begin to describe. 100 times better the noise the TT makes.
