If you do speak to Gertjan, you should note that his name isn't pronounced anything like it's spelt. Just in case you think you've got the wrong number when you get "Hello, Hhhhhhertyan here," :D

(Also, I don't know about chiark, but my "Autobedrijf Gertjan van der Velde" car mats are still going strong after two years and 53k miles, which is more than can be said of the mats in my wife's 26k mile Saxo)

All info greatly appreciated.

Autobedrijf Gertjan van der Velde - email gj_velde@wish.net, or phone +31 186 661556 (I still remember that number despite having had the car two years now!)

Excellent guy, very very good, knows and loves Imprezas inside out, and works out damn cheap.

Has yet to put a foot wrong with the ImportingImprezas community...

Nick.
(wishing he was on commission)

Fizz 01 November 2001 04:52 PM

got mine through Exclusive Eurocar, £16,100!

Adam M 01 November 2001 04:54 PM

Litchfield imports.

customer service comes free.

Ian E 01 November 2001 05:28 PM

Another recommendation for Gertjan :) He must sell more Scoobs to the UK than most of the UK dealers.

My Gertjan floor mats are still going strong, as is the Sony CD that he installed free of charge :)

Cheers,

Ian.

Great service, made everything so simple :D

Full UK spec with A/C and Electric Sunroof: £16500  :D

I got mine from Subaru Aalsmeer in Holland, but they were awkward people :(

One thing to note is that cars from Belgium give you a 3 year warranty, whereas those from Holland have a 1 year warranty. I think Litchfield are doing MY01s for £17995 including the extra 2 years' warranty.

I did it all myself and had great fun driving it back knowing I'd saved over £5000 :D:D

Best of luck!

Cheers
Richard

I also got mine from Subaru Aalsmeer. The chaps name was Constant Strack van Schijndel, far from weird, very helpful. He gave me a lift to my motel, found a motel for me by phoning numerous, coz the Euro finals were on at the time and he also gave me a lift to the airport. Top service too. Phone +31297347170

Cheers,

Wrexy

Another favourite is Frits Kempen. 0031455312398. Total star and will go that extra mile (he acts of kindness are stuff of legend!).
Good luck.

I also go mine from Aalsmeer back in 2000. They were a popluar choice at the time as they are quite near Schiphol airport and are physically located in the same builing as the Dutch Importer (equivalent of IM). Maybe that was the reason that they were less than helpful to me at the time - as they were underpressure not to try and sell all of their quota to us brits and thus lose all the future service revenue!.

I got so nervous after they had sat on my deposit for over 5 weeks with out hearing a peep back from them that I flew over just to see the place for myself. I met Mr. Constant Strack van Schijndel and he was pleasant enough, but I got the impression he thought he was doing me a favour!

From what I've read on importingimprezas I'd go with the man with the unpronounceable name (Gertjan) if I did it again!

It is definitely worth speaking to Iain at Litchfield Imports too, as you may find that his price is cheaper than going direct.

If you do go direct, the "mountains of paperwork" that everyone* talks about is actually a form called the V55/5 which has about 10 boxes that need filling in.

Feel free to drop me a mail if you want more advice.

Nick.
* = Well, the dealers!

I have to give my vote of confidence to Keyring Cars as well. They know what they're doing and have also personally visited all the dealers that they do business with on your behalf.
I have no interest other than as a satisfied customer.

I got my 2000 MY turbo from Subaru Vilvoorde in Brussels, right next to the air port or a ten minute taxi ride from the Eurostar station. I paid around £15250 by the time I had paid the VAT in this country. They are actually the importers in Belgium as well as being a dealer. They were excellent to deal with. The person's name who I dealt with was Ludwig Mahieu, his direct number is 0032 2 254 7515. Also remember that if you buy the car from Belgium you get the 3 year warranty. I have the details of the warranty if you want them, mail me off line.

The guy who dealt with me was Mr Yeoh, can't remember his first name, only a young guy but really efficient, the handover took all of 15-20 Minutes and with a full tank of juice I was off to the ferry:D:D:DThe deed was done !

The cheapest price on their website http://www.keyring-cars.co.uk/wrx.htm is £16,832 without extras.

Did you do a special deal, or is it exchange rates or something?
