You're not going mad m8 (not yet anyway). Whenever I've seen it it's always 5 or 6p more. Unless it's thieving motorway service b*stards who charge what they like (i.e. putting 3p on a litre & 30p on a packet of fags on bank holidays!)

Tw*ts!

Deano

A Shell garage in Northumberland is charging 83.9p a litre for Super and 71.9 for Normal!

Now I thought that there was always about a 6p difference between the two. What they have done is lower the Unleaded BUT not the Super. When I enquired at the garage they told me Super was always 12p more expensive than Normal. I was flabbergasted. In my opinion this is wrong, 12p difference, no way ever!!!

Does anyone have any prices of Super and Normal, from their local garages, in particular Shell garages so at least I know I am not going mad!!

I paid 73.9 for Optimax in Leeds yesterday

Dazzler 01 November 2001 12:38 PM

Yep, can't understand it either.

SUL did come down a while back and was almost the same price as NUL, but that was short lived. It proves it can be done by those thieving b&stards if they want to.

BarryK 01 November 2001 12:39 PM

I wanted a fill up on Saturday. Pulled into BP station coz I was low, when I noticed NUL was 70.9 but SUL was 82.9, I stopped at ten quid and filled up at the next proper garage where Optimax was 74.9.

I posted a while back about my local "support your village garage" charging 95.4 or something ridiculous for SUL.

Don't buy any more than you really have to, and tell them you won't be back.

In traditional British service industry style they won't give a monkey's. :)

Yup, I have the same prob. local Esso is now charging 69.9p NUL but has kept SUL at 79.9 for months. :(

ZAZ 01 November 2001 02:05 PM

Is SUL/Optimax more expensive to produce/store/transport then NUL? If not, why the high price?

ash1 01 November 2001 02:07 PM

Beat them, try this link

http://www.ispyvalue.com/Petrol/StartPage.asp

Finds cheapest, for example shell Horsforth is 75.9 !

ChrisB 01 November 2001 02:25 PM

DT - my local Esso has done the same. UL has nose dived, SUL hasn't changed.

scoobynutta555 01 November 2001 04:20 PM

I seem to remeber reading some time ago that sul was only marginally more expensive to refine that normal unleaded ( something silly like 1/2p per litre). Also isnt sul a cleaner fuel than nul? If these two points are correct (not 100% sure) then why are we being shafted?

ash1 01 November 2001 04:54 PM

Its called the Great British Ripoff (GBR). They should scrap NUL and do 97 RON fuel only.

Nikko2 01 November 2001 06:24 PM

Garage near me Shell
SUL(optimax) 86.9
NUL 70.9

Thats nearly an extra tenner a tank.

nom 01 November 2001 06:40 PM

It might only be 1/2p more expensive to refine SUL, but tax that 1/2p 300% & add on a bit 'cos it's a non-PC fuel (apparently, being more efficient is worse for the environment) & you end up with our happy little price.
We all have to have catalysts 'cos some politicians believed the largest supplier of platinum in the world when they told them that engines were less polluting with them (well, if the figures are fudged they are) & then they give us this. Lovely.
Good old politicians. Can't stop lovin'em.

DT 01 November 2001 11:08 PM

It's jus cos they can get away with it and recoup a fast buck without too many people noticing. how many quote SUL prices on their boards??? - none round here. Consequently you only find out the price whrn you pull the nossle out of the holster. I've tried complaining, but those in the shop are rarely the ones who have decided the price.

RICH WILD 02 November 2001 09:07 AM

I paid 73.9p for Optimax yesterday in Rochdale.

Normal was 69.9p I think.

philwaring 02 November 2001 09:17 AM

Local Sainsburys in Herts ....

SUL 97RON - 80.9p per litre
UL 95RON - 69.9p per litre

Madness!
