MY96 Scooby has developed a misfire/hic up at 1500/1800 rpm,
although not normally a problem ( because it doesn't spend a lot of time down that end of the rev band ), it can be a pain in traffic. The car has done about 100k, and has been well serviced.
The problem doesn't appear to be on one specific cylinder ?!
Can some-one point me in the right direction please.

I think I have a similar problem, only happens after cars warmed up. Started after getting a dealer to change the timing belt and plugs, dealer fitted a replacement set of plugs but no improvement, they claimed after having the car for 3 more days a solenoid or valve was fubared and replaced that.. guess what, improvement but still their. After a close inspection myself found the insulation on a coil pack underneath the rubber seal to be cracked, will replace that and see what happens. The valve thing replaced was on the off side suspension strut, a little pipe(vacumm?) had snapped off.The car is a MY96.

I had exacly the same problem after a cam belt change, turned out to be a crack in one of the HT leads, just taped it up for now and instantly solved the low rev hestitation.

That problem sounds very much like the knock sensor problem. What happens is the knock sensors are a wee bit too sensitive and hear to many noises they shouldn't in the engine, what the hesitation is will be the ECU retarding the timing.
