impreza engine dilema

Hello Scooby friends out there, i have a dilema, i damaged my impreza 2000 AWD uk Std version basically the engine started a very loud knocking sound constantly, so after various searches i purchased a complete engine off ebay for £650 which was advertised as a 97/98 uk engine, however though they look identical, the purchased engine has slightly longer manifolds and about 6 less electrical connectors, so does any one out there know if i can make use the good parts and put them into my knackered engine . i.e crankshaft, pistons, etcc not too mecahnicaly technical though i am trying to learn are the bottem ends so to speak the same with slightly different top ends

please help!!!

A desperate Scooby soul:cry:

Would it not be easier to change the manifold and sensors over.

Whats does slightly longer manifold mean. A picture speaks a thousand words

I sure people can help

Or do you know the engine or chassis ID

Check the stud pattern on the manifolds, some are straight and some are offset, if they are the same you can swop.

Or you could use the bottom end and swop the heads.

Thanks for the response, basically i had a guy in a garage go to do the swap over and the problem occured in that the engine i bought had the sensor connector cut off so when he tried to put my old manifold onto the new one he said the manifolds wouldnt quite line up and the knackered engine had about 6 more wires on it , so not too sure myself, my engine is out of a classic shaped 2000 year just before the bug eye the engine i bought is from a 97/98 model, have they changed the engines in that time maybe?, i have my other engine getting stripped down to asses damage so cant really check it out at the min the bought engine has EJ20 and a P535 code on it dont know if thats of any use,

cheers again

steve

Thought as much

Can i use the crank and pistons if required to fit my knackered engine

can use the entire bottom end, no need to split it, just use the heads from the 99
