autogauge oil temp gone backwards??

Went on a decent drive up to north ales over the weekend, noticed on the way back the oil temp didnt reach its normal operating area, would only go to 60 degrees instead of the normal 80..... didnt bother looking at it till this morning, when i got in the car i noticesd as i turned the ignition on,the needle was sitting way back from the normal zero position, and therefore had further to travel to the 80 degree mark, and therefore the low reading....... any ideas why this has happened? gauge knackered or can it be resett somehow?
