What is happening on our roads?

I travel from Oxford to Poole a lot and have noticed over the past months that nearly all major roads are having 'grids' cut into them, at numerous locations ( Similar to traffic light pressure pads), it must be costing a fortune, so please tell me it is not for some future speed monitoring scheme.

Weve had them on our roads for a few years down here in North wales.

White markers in the road, so they can sit and track your speed between 2 point on the road say if there sat on a bridge or what ever.......

But 90% of the time they dont monitor them

Pink lady,

Thanks for the reply, but theses are not the Vascar markings on the road but grids cut into the surface, within a basic rectangular shape.

A lot of the sites have 'boxes' on the ajacent verge..........

I think that they are counters to monitor the volume of trafic betwen certain points.

We have some on the a55 on anglesy north wales because the people that built the road are paid for each vehicle that use the roads. this will be for a 30 year period so as to pay for building the road.

but as usual they droped a clanger because the road has paid for itself within 6 years so the rest of the period is profit for the fat cats.

Possibly DS2 speed traps -

Rubber strips in the road calculate your speed as you pass over them via the small telltale grey post which sits along side. The DS2 system requires a mobile camera usually in a van to plug into this grey post inorder to photograph you. They cant calculate your speed without the van plugging the camera in the post so watch for it nearby. Difficult to spot if you are not using a GPS Speed Camera Warning System. Cant capture your speed unless the van with camera is plugged into the grey post. Sometimes the strips in the road are only on one side of the road.

Any pics?:wonder:

Liam
