Upgrading TMIC - will it fit?

Quick question -

MY96 WRX STI Version 2

Got the chance of a V5/V6 TMIC without the silicone hose to the turbo. It will come with the metal Y.

Question - Will my original Subaru Silicone pipe fit from the turbo to the new Y piece or would I have to source a Samco one?

does your pipe have the dumpvalve outlet on??
if it does i am sure you can make it fit,you may need to cut it down a bit though

Yeah it has the DV I think, I'll go and have a look!

Nick.

Yeah it has got the DV outlet on the 90 degree Hose fro the turbo to the intercooler.

Fulla, when you say it needs cutting down, you mean the part after the 90 degree bend from the turbo? The straight part which meets the IC?

Anybody done this? Or did they use a new silicone hose from the V5/6 TMIC?

should be able to use yours if you trim a bit off where it meets the ic
only reason i had to buy a new one was because my old intercooler used a hard plastic pipe wheras yours has the silicone and alloy pipe, in fact the pipe i bought was a samco for a v2 sti so it si the same as yours!
think the v5-6 is a bit more of a squeze to get on but i am sure it will go with a bit of work and a large hammer :lol1:

forgot you will have to seal up the dumpvalve outlet on the ic,unless you get the silicone hose with it and relocate you dump valve to the other side.
think i would just get it welded or bolt a bit of plate on and use your hose with th dv outlet on

Will my STI carbon fibre strut brace still fit?

I think you have to cut out the DV and weld a palte over it on the 5/6 TMIC as it obstructs the idle valve or something!

think it just bolts on on the v5-6 nick,so just bolt on a bit of plate with plenty of sealant or get it welded up

I thought the V5/6 TMIC DV oulet would fowl one of the valves? Thant's why people cut in to the IC and plate over it???

Anyone done this??????

Here you go mate, ive got an version 4 i/c on mine. Removed the elbow and welded a plate over it,had to cut the i/c and the throttle body down to make it sit snug (about 6mm on both ends) also bought a new samco hose (TCS 22) which needs cutting down to size. Also i covered up the alloy y piece with rubber sheeting to stop ant rubbing!!

Loads of threads on here about this upgrade :thumb:

It is a lot of work for modest gains so think it through carefully before you start.

Harvey, is it better to just save a bit more money and get a FMIC?

agree with Harvey

In my honest opinion, YES. Not much doubt.
