vf34 on a UK classic

Hi all,

i have been offered a vf34 turbo by a mate.

I have a my00 uk classic,

running a gems ecu,

de cat mongoose exhaust

pace fmic kit.

it is running 270bhp/275lbft

will the vf 34 be a straight swap? how much more power can i expect?

will there be a trade off in repsonse/low down power etc?

what is the standard turbo on these cars??

thanks

paul.

Yes it is a striaght swap out, i've got one on my my00 uk turbo.

Power will come in later (get 1 bar of boost by just under 3000rpm) but it will hold all the way up to the redline. It won't die off at 5500 like the standard turbo does.

Power wise anywhere between 300-350 bhp, i made 312bhp on Powerstations rollers, other people with similar setups have made around 340-350bhp on others rollers.

thanks sounds good.

just a worry whether the pace cooling system will cope with 300+bhp.

I wouldnt just change the turbo from a TD04 to a VF34 and expect the car to run correctly as it wont do.
These are 2 completely different turbo's, one being quite a bit larger than the other and having different characteristics when on boost which your standard map will have problems with, now if you remap the car after changing the turbo, thats different ;)

thanks for the replies.

won't just change it out, if i go this route then i'll certainly have it remapped before i even drive it !!!! i am very careful with engines!!

will this turbo mean it'll pull cleanly to redline at 7k rpm then?? do get a little frustrated changing gear 1k before the posted redline!

Yes it will give you power all the way to the red line, but note you dont need to go all the way to the red line as your power normally starts to drop off 500rpm before then ;)

yes good point,

the car has a very easy life , daily commute is pretty slow stuff.

nice to have those extra revs when you need them tho....

so, if i'm pulling 270bhp now with the above mods what do you reckon i can expect with the vf34?

will is start to affect gearbox/drivetrain reliability and or engine internals?

paul
