Who has had a MAF go??????

My induction cone was worked loose yesterday (while removing something else:D )

it then fell off while driving, i drove home and refitted it straight away, today however it has been running very rough and jerky, and the whole car feels like its running half power.

Does this sound like the MAF to you,

Anyone know a cheap place to aquire one :)

Cookie

Speak to Knowlsey Mark, he told me ages ago that he got a second hand one from either Grade A or Glen Burgie etc... and it worked fine on his!! Lots cheaper mate.

David at API (your bestest bestest gearbox mate :p ) breaks Scoob's quite alot, when I got my STi8 TMIC from him, he had virtually the entire car for sale.

Spoke to him earlier, but need to know thats def the problem, he quote4d about £80 for the part, but said what the problem is is changing something before you know is def the cause

He has a good point!

I have read on here somewhere that if the MAF is shot, then take it out and see if the car runs the same, if so then it's a good indication that the MAF wasn't working before it was taken out!

Best do a search first though as I'm not sure if it could cause any damage to the engine!

cookstar 26 May 2006 07:15 PM

This is the thing, it idles fine,

Runs fine, its just when you drive hard, it seems to hold off boost, like getting 0.5 bar instead of 1.2

Will try ECU reset tonight :)

kin quick 26 May 2006 07:21 PM

I always thought that a MAF makes the car really lumpy from idle to 7k revs?!?!

Tried cleaning your solanoid with carb cleaner?? Bett's swears by it!

Also, might be worth checking for leaks on your dump valve pipework??

Other than that, I'm not too sure.

Just had a thought, is your induction kit getting enough cold air?? Have you kept the standard air intake?? I got major heatsoak when sitting in traffic on way back from SSO, it suddenly cleared and I booted it, the car got to about 4k and bogged right down!! As soon as it got some cold air running through the front, it was fine again........just a thought

Its funny you should say that , it has only been since i took the air box resonator out for Frayz, but it wasnt attached to anything anyway.

Just seems odd

I too thought maf failure made car run poorly on idle, but cant think of anything else it could be.

Boost solenoid is redundant as i have dawes ( I think ):)

kin quick 26 May 2006 09:11 PM

I've got a big cone filter in place of the air box, but I've kept all the standard plastic bits (front grill to resonator box intake, and the inner wing resonator) and all seems fine.

Will remove it once I fit my trumpet and intake pipe from the fog light cover (like Bett's one) but at the moment it's still providing a fair amount of cold air, and Bob Rawle said it was fine when he mapped it.
