I know this may well have been asked hundreds of times but I can't see anything for it immediately.

What is your "normal" fuel consumption like?

I did 65km tonight and this cost me £10 of optimax. I know these cars are heavy on the fuel but is this average? I have a little bit of a dodgy fuel gauge in that the tank was empty but the guage said nearly 1/2 tank!

Tonight it said empty, put £10 in guage went up a bit....do 65km and it says empty again. Do I trust this? Is this about right? I just want to make sure so that I can keep toppping up when I have done so many kms...

thats about right, i get about 40miles out of a tenner.

i get 200 miles to a full tank £40 ish down here but thats 99% town driving

Been driving from home to Leeds and back for the past few days. You can guess what the M62 is like in the mornings. So stop start, bit of cruising and a quick blast here and there. 270 miles to a tank full of tesco 99. And I mean a full tank........from pump clicking off full to oh my god I didn't realise the needle went down that far empty.

*edit* to say normally I go about 240 miles between fills. Thats because I put my foot down a bit more and also don't push it on the fuel light that much.

I get 111km per quater of a tank but since I fitted a chip im getting better fuel consumption when going slow at least.

used to get 25mpg now getting 25-28mpg.

how much was the optimax Pence per litre wise?

Don't let mr lewis see this otherwise he will be saying he gets 500+ to a tank :lol1:

All depends what you drive WRX or STi UK or JDM etc etc

WRX tends to be about 25/26 ish mpg
STI somewhere around 20/22 ish

but all depends how you drive and what sort of journeys you do long motorway cruise or stop start around town, some will get far more some a lot less, if you like driving then less if your an old sunday driver then more :lol1:

97UK spec

I've averaged 27 to 27.7 mpg over about 30 000 miles, lots of motorways and town commuting.

Best tank was nearly 32, worst 20 mpg.

I find motorways with roadworks and 50mph speed cameras give the best returns.

I'm not a Sunday driver, but southern traffic helps to keep your milage up.

my00 uk turbo, with decat and remap 13 if i give it some, then about 30 ish on the motorway sat at 80mph ish

I've had 3 cars and got various mpgs, mostly motorway driving:

94 jdm wrx 28mpg
98 sti 4 25mpg
2001 jdm sti 22mpg

All with either optimax and booster or tesco 99.

half a tank (20 ltrs on mine) got me 114 so I believe that would be 22.8mpg. That was on a long motorway run doing 2 fiqure speeds

That is better than normal though, usually about 220 miles from a full 40 ltrs

300BHP UK MY99 average 22mpg, best 28mpg

So, I am getting about 20mpg which seems reasonable from what you have all said!

Never mind. I at least know now so I shouldn't run out anywhere!

As I am a little DIY ish... Anyone have any ideas on what I should check with my fuel gauge to see why it gives me all these false readings? I put the £10 in last night and this morning it tells me I have nearly half a tank in there! I may do as I keep topping it up but I really don't know.

I would like to get it to work so I really know!

the fuel gauge on my uk my99 is very slow to react to a full tank at £1 a litre its costing me £50 to fill it up (tesco99)and i get just over 200 miles to a tank mostly urban driving but am i botherd am i feck

Fill the tank up so its full instead of sticking a tenner in it all the time, then gauge where your @!

I may well do. Just don't have the cut off on my car as yet so I will have guess when it is full too!!! Don't really want petrol all over my feet but I can slow down at £40 and see where I am.

To and from work, 9 ml return i will use £10 a week,so, about 45 miles driving miss daisy style.

On a run last weekend with a few mad bit thrown in i got around about 30 ml to a gallon......No it's true i tell you, i was more than impressed

It wont over fill, the fuel cut off is in the pump nozzle!

What car you got?

I have a MY96 V-LTD JDM WRX The tank will take about 44litres and I will get anywhere between 160-200 miles per tank depending on driving!

i found that the last quater of a tank isnt very easy to judge which is probably why when its on empty it it goes up so high when only putting a tenner in it.

the last quater always seems to disapear very quickly but i was told that even when its on the empty line there is still about 10 litres of fuel in there.

if i remember right yours is a pre 96 import wagon which i think has a 60litre fuel tank and what i think is about right is 12.5 litres for every quater and then 10 litres from the empty line down.

I also try and get 112km per every quater which is about 70miles which works out at 25mpg. thats what i aim for anyway some times i get alot over sometimes alot under but we all like a play every now and again :norty:

Mine is a 94/95 import, you are right Gaz. Well remembered!

I know what you are saying about the last 1/4 tank and I did notice that it was highly unreliable! However, last week I ran out of fuel at home but the gauge told me I had nearly 1/2 tank! There was nothing in it and £5 had to be got in a can......no fun :( I think I should be able to check wires and stuff for this as it can say 1/2 tank one time and then empty the next. Not a very reliable thing really.

The reason I asked about the fuel cut off is that in my case the neck where the nozzle fits in is wider than the nozzle. As far as I understood things, I thought the cut off worked by the gases building up, as the neck is wider the gases could escape and the cut off may not work????? :wonder: :confused:

You are right about us all wanting to play every now and then!!! LOL
