Prodrive style, Lexus style or standard..?

I only recently got my Scooby (Bugeye WRX 02) and I dont plan on making any changes to it other than little things. However one thing that has caught my eye are rear tail lights...WAIT!..Now before you click the 'Back' button, hear me out. I get the idea that Lexus style rear lights arent highly regarded on Scoobies but there is a set for bugeye (2001 - 2003) Scoobs that look very similar to Peanut / blobeye Scoobs from 2004 onwards. I've posted a pic below, I only noticed them since they dont have the little 'nubbin', round, sticky outy bit on the bottom like standard 2004> Scoobs. Thats when I found they are designed for 2004 an earlier.

Now they are not 'Lexus-style' as such, and personally I think they are quite nice. To me they look a brighter shade of red and obviously clearer than standard bugeye lights, hence look similar to peanut eye Scoobs.

BTW, I'm looking at the ones at the TOP in the pic, not the bottom. Infact you guys can now see 'Red' ones vs. Lexus ones.

Just wanted to get some opinions from peeps on here.
What you all think of them?

M.

The best thing to do with rear lights is leave them as standard, it's far cheaper and you will never regret it. Spend your money on other things.:thumb:

I quite like the top ones. I'd have them on my bug!

Daniel-S 21 May 2006 06:11 PM

top ones

Rasher 21 May 2006 06:55 PM

anything but the Lexus style mate

JonMc 21 May 2006 07:01 PM

I was exactly of the same opinion when I saw the top ones, would go really well with crystal repeaters and wing markers I've put on at the front, keep the theme going if you know what I mean.

go with the red ones, or keep it standard....:thumb:

whatever you do, they wont look as good as those STi headlights your getting ;)

erm it might sound a bit daft but i dont have a scooby yet so i was wondering whats the different between the bug eye and the blob eye scooby??? kinda confuses me but i am a girl too :)

My wife has these on her MY01 bug-eye. They were already on the car when she bought it from Subaru a couple of years ago. In fact, it took me a while to realise that they were aftermarket lenses -- aware of how nice the car's rear looked, I was puzzled how other bug-eyes seemed to have a more 'plain' look... then the penny dropped.

Compared to 'Lexus' style lenses, I think these are a great option over standard. The clear flavour is okay, but the red option looks better in my opinion and maintains the 'factory fitted' look.

The only wierd feature about them (but don't know if it would still be the case) is the bulb fitment for some of the bulbs. 2 of the bulbs/bulb holders take the rectangle-shape bulbs (e.g. brake and reverse, can't be sure) but you can still pick these up from Halfords. Bit daft though because it means buying different spares and I think they're slightly more expensive than normal bulbs.

Here's some pics (c. 900x600). If ever the links don't work, drop me a line.

A number of differences but noticably the bonnet and lights from the front and the lights from the back. Bugeye has round lights hence bug and blobeye has teardrop shaped front lights so it gets called blobeye!:thumb:

The insurance ain't too bad for me cos I'm an oldie of 28!!

I pay £580 on my WRX!!:luxhello:

JonMc 21 May 2006 09:27 PM

I'm 33 with 10 years NCB and a clean licence, garaged and in a low risk area and It cost me £590 on a 51 plate bugeye.

A bit more pricey than I would have liked but because it is my first year with the car so I've been hit for lack of experience with the marque.
