Vorsprung Durch Technik!
Just picked up this mint, 63k 1993 Audi S4 for a Very Good Price indeed. After 5 years in the automotive wilderness (including a Vento TD .. don't ask) it's good to be back in something rapid!
https://img85.imageshack.us/img85/8909/s46bg.jpg It has an impeccable history having been owned by Audi UK, then a wealthy London business man for the first 12 years of its life. It's just had a lot of the big ticket items replaced (clutch, brakes, tyres), and I'm not intending to put a lot of miles on it so (fingers crossed) it isn't going to bankrupt me ... The 300 mile drive home last night helped me rediscover what it was to enjoy driving, and while it's never going to be the last word in driver involvement it makes for a very rapid and refined way of getting about. What swung it for me was the fact that the early S4 seems to have slipped under the radar of the insurance companies. It's actually costing me £85 less to insure than my previous Mk2 Golf GTI ...?! Anyone had any experience with these or the later same-shape S6? |
Very Nice example.

Cheers dude. Going to try and get some better pics up once I've treated to a full valet and given the paint a session with the clay bar and Zymol. That's if it ever stops raining ....

Looks very smart, whats the power output and performance on those? I guess its a 2.3 5cylinder turbo or something?
Had a 2.0 5cylinder Audi myself at one point, and it sounded lovely - that should sound fantastic if it is a 5cylinder engine. |
Never seen that style of S4 before, looks nice, any performance figures?
|
yeah ive never seen that syle of s4 before, how much do they go for? Is the engine the same as the usual s4... i.e 2.7 turbo (twin) not 100% sure.
|
According to Wkipedia:
2.2L 5 Cyl Turbo, 230bhp/258 lb-ft, 0-60 in 6 secs, 0-100 in 17.5 and TS of 151. Nice ;) Apparently there was also a V8 version. One of them would be a good find! |
The V8 one was based on the bigger 100/200 shell, and was simply called the Audi V8, basically looked like the 200 with a bit different lights and grille.

Quite nice that, I can imagine what the wife would say !
|
I know what my Mrs would say if I spent £5k on a K reg Audi. The second word would be "off".

And yes, it was available with a V8 on the continent, but that version never made it over here AFAIK. It wasn't actually much quicker! Autotrader prices are around £3.5k for a 120,000 miler, rising to around the £7k mark for the later (virtually identical, but group 20) S6 model. Least it's stopped raining now and I've given the glass a polish and a coat of Rain-X. So much to do ... |
That engine sounds like the same one that was used in the Audi 80 RS2 Coupe. Was tempted to buy one several years ago but settled on the 2.3 5 cylinder 20v Quattro instead.

I had a H reg Audi 100 2.0, 5 cylinder, I removed the Cat and replaced it with a Peco Cherry bomb and it sounded awesome, people were looking round wonder where the Quattro was when all they could see was the old land yacht !
