geometry for hillclimp
 

Does anybody has experience on what geometry works better on classic for use on tarmac hillclimp?

Speak to Graham (911) or John Stevenson. They should be able to give you a few pointers.

What's your current suspension spec.?

John Stevenson (username on here) also sprint races his Impreza, so is worth asking too.

I use TEIN HA with pillow ball top mounts, Cusco sway bars front and rear, whiteline anti-lift kit, ajdustable drop links front and rear and adjustable lateral links with ball joints.

From what I've seen of various geometry's they all seem to run toe-out (+.05 at least), negative camber (1.25 to 1.75+ ... some up to 3 deg) and loads of positive castor (5 deg+).

Graham and the two John's are the ones to ask as they have real-life hillclimb and sprint experience :)

Setting so much depend on the spec of the chassis, you the driver, and the type of hillclimbs/Sprints you intendto run.

Toe out front-rear (at least 1-1,5 mm/wheel) and the more possible castor.
The ammount of camber and the rest depend of your driving style, different hillclimbs, local waxen tarmac etc (you know Greek tarmac...)

I know that the exact settings depend on several factors and that camber must be found measuring tire temperatures, but what I need is a starting point from you guys with personal expirience.

Jim, can you give the toe settings in degrees? Also, I did not know that you run a greek version of the forum, I will register asap.
By the way, I am in Cyprus but anyway the tarmac is about in the same condition as in Greece. :)

Actually Stavros we have changed recently our forum to www.scooby.gr so you have to visit us there!
Anyway 1mm/wheel for 17" wheels is about 6 minutes/wheel so 10 minutes per wheel toe out is a good starting point.
I run the same settings with 1,4/1,5 degrees negative camber on my "daily" WRX without any tire wear problem and the behaviour except in extreme cases like flood is perfect for my taste!
As you told also temp measurements is a good indication of the best camber for your car, your driving style and each hillclimb.
About the same settings uses Prodrive for his Group N Imprezas.

Prodrive Geometry for a classic Impreza are:-


Front Axle
Max -ve Camber (equal on both sides)
1mm toe-in (both sides)

Rear Axle
Max -ve Camber (usually factory set and non-adjustable)
1mm toe-in (both sides)

I have a few other "suggested" setups if you want those to try?

Stefan are you sure these are the Group N Prodrive settings and not road settings for the classic?

Sorry, only read Savros's post. The ones I listed are "fast road" settings, not the Group N ones.

So, what are the Group N ones?
