Best music/Midi software

Now i've got my house back in order after a sh!t load of building work I want to get my music keyboard setup and connected to my PC.

I had Cubase VST before but cant seem to find my CD so am open to suggestions as to what is the best before I go and spend some money.

What wouls you all recommend as the best midi software. My keyboard is a Yamaha CS6X

As you're using PC, your options are still really Cubase (will keep my own opinions out of it;) ). However, another option is Reason (combined with your CS, you'd have a nice little setup)

Definately PC. I know of reason, havent seen the later versions, last time I used it was about 4 years ago.

I'm intregued now about your opinions of Cubase?

umm, I used to be endorsed by Steinberg, and well, let's just say that I hold Cubase in such high esteem that it is currently being used as a door wedge in my studio :D

I use Mac, and am using Logic Pro.

However, each person to their own!! :D

Cubase / Cakewalk are good if you've got a lot of external hardware, however as mentioned above Reason 3 is a fantastic all in one package and very cheap for what it does.

Other options apart from Reason are Storm and Orion (similar not as feature rich but alot cheaper), a great midi sequencer I use is called Tracktion which has now been bought by mackie who do mixing desks. Get on over to www.kvr-vst.com and you will find literally *hundreds* of sequencers, plug-ins, effects.

I've got Cubase V5r1 (I think) including dongle for sale if you want to be above-board - pm for details if interested...
