Identifying my impreza.. Which model?..

How can I go about identifying which model I have got,as the guy I got it from didn't have alot of knowledge about it.

Its a classic import, M plate with lots of numbers and lots in japanese on what looks like a vin plate?

WRX owners...
Does it state 'WRX' on your logbooks?

Cheers in advance.

www.iwoc.co.uk Look at JDM pages. There is a list of all the model codes. See which one matches.

Im not sure what you expect or hope for here; would you like me come around and decode the applied model number for you?

Try giving us a clue and Im sure that someone will help.

Try this

http://www.sidc.co.uk/faq.htm#2.1

Look at Section 2.1.1 Japanese Production Runs

You're looking for a GC8..... Number on the Vin. It will probably be GC8C48D denoting a MY95 WRX, it should be obvious if it's an STi or RA variant. Oh, and if it has a really big boot - it's probably a Wagon.:freak3:

It would be very helpful if you could, even though your over the other end of the country :wonder:

RedScoob, thanks, I'll look out for the GC8 number then head onto one of the links provided.
Cheers Dan.

People with WRX's, does it state WRX on your logbook ?

Alex; look under the bonnet on the near-side inner wing. There youll find the build plate, which carries two principal numbers. One is the short JDM chassis number and more importantly, the second is the Applied Model Number. This number will define the exact model and year of car that you have. The first part will be GC8 or GF8. This indicates either a 2000cc saloon (C) or 2000cc wagon (F). Next comes the model year identifier (not necessarily the year of registration, it runs from approximately September/October-August/September). A = MY93; B = MY94; C = MY95 & MY96; D = MY96 etc... Next comes the important part: 48D is a WRX; 47D is a WRX Type-RA and in later cars 4ED is an STI & 4DD indicates an STI Type-RA.

If it's a -95 car, it won't be obvious ;)

I deliberately didnt mention altered-production cars to avoid confusing the bloke. In the very unlikely even that the car is one of the 300 1994 STIs (#1 100; #2 200) then there will be a plaque to that effect; and if its a white 1995 STI then itll have an RA APN and a vent in the roof.....
