New Xbox 360 Accessories With Big Pics

The Xbox 360 Wireless Racing Wheel (release date: fall, price TBD) is in development internally at Microsoft by several members from the Microsoft Sidewinder team. The first-party design has a thick, contoured rubber pad for lap usage, and a sturdy clamp for table usage. The wireless steering wheel comes with F1-style shift paddles and pedals equipped with a medal rim to anchor your heels while playing.
The existing battery life is the same as the wireless controller and, by using the AC adaptor, you'll get force feedback. There are two levels of feedback, the basic rumble motors that pick up wheels on gravel and low-level rumbles, and force feedback, from the actual car performance -- slides, crashes, etc. The same rechargeable unit that works for the controllers works with the Xbox 360 wireless steering wheel. The wheel comes with full Dpad usage, ABXY buttons, and a guide button. It comes in one color, "chill white."

The HD drive looks like a book ;)

Swen6 10 May 2006 08:34 AM

They all look rather good, the steering wheel looks tops.

MS seem to be thinking everything through this time round it all looks like it belongs together, unlike before, it seemed a case of 'oh that'll do, get in on shelfs'.

The futures bright:D

OT: The Halo 3 trailer must have taken all night to DL from live, think it was a bandwith hogger ?

The HD drive doesn't seem to have a HDMI connection. How will it play HD movies as most of them will be protected and therefore unable to play through component.

Surely the 360 will handle the decryption and then play through component.

Also whats the flap for on the back?

Thats the catch, I don't believe anything has been confirmed regarding HDCP yet ;)

It only works through HDMI or DVI, not USB . . . . keen to see what MS are doing about this. Hope its not going to downgrade the video :Suspiciou

I'm sure MS have though of this and will unveil their cunning plan in due course :) I'd expect something to provide extra digital outputs with HDCP or some deal struck with Intel ;)

I have to say the dvd unit does look like a mockup. Just look at the drive door compared the 360 one, definately a retouch.

But hey aslong as it plays HD DVD and its reasonably priced then its all good...

Most of the next gen gfx cards dont take in to consideration hdcp so future PC drives wont play movies either

DJ Dunk 11 May 2006 08:15 AM

But most GFX cards have DVI ports on them so a software solution is pretty simple. The 360 on the other hand has no such port at present.

Looks good. All I need now is an xbox that actually works :(
