Since completing a service on my E36 BMW I thought I would reset the serice interval gauge by holding in the the trip mileage button, but all i managed to do was to put it into self diagnostic mode. Can anyone tell me how to reset the gauge correctly.
Whilst i'm on the subject of the self diagnostic mode, what do modes 1-6 mean, it comes up with 465000, 65000, 200, 85 etc before the needles do their bit, but i don't know what all this means.

Take it to your local Beamer dealer. A 1-6 means that cilynder 1 of 6 is not firing correctly. The numbers relate to the reason behind it, e.g. no spark, no fuel, no compression etc. Better still - sell it and buy a scoob... ;)

Funny that 'cos it drives fine.
I don't think they are indicating a fault as they cycle through the 6 modes & show a number which I presume indicates a code which may be showing that they are ok.

p.s. i can't buy a scoob 'cos the misses won't let me, but if she would I reckon i'd save up for an Evo :D

Sorry m8 - this was one of my drunken chums pissing about on Saturday night. No idea what the real answer is, but the buy a scoob option is probably best

If you want to reset the service light you will need a BMW tool that plugs into a port under the bonnet.

I have one, drop by if you like and I will do it for you.

I am in Hemel Hempstead, Herts

Cheers

Paul
