Coilover Problem

Hi,
my car is a My98 Impreza Gt and the coilovers are Intrax RS.

The problem is, that with the same height setting in the front on both sides, my Scooby stands not straight.Left side is higher than right.
Everything is mounted correct, the coilovers are all right also.Iīve also got a ALK.The car had no accident.
So to get the car straight I have to adjust a difference of 2cm on the
coilovers in the front.Left lower than right.

I think thats not normal. Is that a common problem?

Hope you can understand what I mean and sorry for my poor english.

Greetings

Are your springs right?

Are they:
1
Same length when OFF the suspension (called the Free Length)
2
Are the 2 front springs the same rate (ie N/mm)
Same goes for the rear
3
Are you sure you have the front 2 springs actually on the front! Same for the rear, and not mixed??

Normally, the rear springs are 80% of the front spring rate, so quite easy to find the 2 strongest springs out of the 4.

I think you need to strip the suspension, check the above and start from there with the se-up.

Graham

ps Your English is good.

Hi,
yes spings are the same, the right one for the front, same length and rate.I checked the coilovers already. They were also checked by the manufacturer.

Is it possible the bushes are so worn out that it comes to this?My Scoob as 175000km on the clock.

Sorry to have dragged you back to basics when you have done all the work!

If the car body is straight, the springs are right the only part i would question is the top mount.
These too are different 'thickness' front/rear.

After that then i would need to think harder!

Let us know.

Hello Graham,
top mount is the part which connects suspension and body, black rubber thing with a bearing inside(?).I donīt think I swiched them and there were new mounts installed with the coilovers.
The hole thing isnīt tragic because the springrate is what matters for the stiffness of the suspension and not the position of the adjustment ring(?).Nevertheless I would like to solve this problem and have a proper set up car.
Think in the next step I should is just buy a new set of front springs for the coilovers and try them or mount my old standard suspension and check if the car stands straight or not.

Your understanding is right.
You say that the coil-overs have new top mounts. Sometimes the front mounts are different to the rear ones.
If you have the two fronts ON ONE SIDE and the 2 rears on the other, you might have a problem!

I am sure you need to strip the whole system off, measure the springs/top mounts and start again.

A GOOD alignment shop used to race cars would be a great help as they can also set the corner weights of the car to get the chassis 'square' to the floor.

same problem for me... I have kw v1 for almost two year. the left side is also higher than the right side. front left is higher about 75mm and the rear left about 25 maybe 50 mm... once I have the camber bolts I'll strip the front ones to check if there is some problem, if so... I guess I have to strip the rear ones too...

That is right a good shop used to race cars is what I need.

Rigth now I have to to spend some time for my studies(the important things),if thereīs any news about my coilovers I let you know.

@cmpequeno
Please feel free to post any news.

christoph, I still havenīt take the sooby to a mechanic but I took the wheels off and inspect the suspension, I'm sure it was a bad fitment. I don't know how but the upper spring collar ( on the left side ) is a little bit spaced from the top mount, that's why the left is higher, I'm almost sure ( I hope I write the correct names of the suspension ). when you can just take a look around the suspension to see if you can find something strange. now I have to go to a mechanic to put things right.
