Phase 1 heads fitted to phase 2 short motor

Has anyone one fitted phase 1 heads to a phase 2 short engine (ie 2.0 litre)

Which type of headgaskets did you use?

Are you remapping the ECU ?

My car does have a mappable ecu. Was hoping to map it when with all the mods are fitted (fmic etc) which will be more or less the same time when or if I can use this new short block.

Ok, If you remap straight away, or drop some ignition timing out as a temporary measure, I would use the thinner steel gaskets. They will up the compression a little, but the thicker STi 3/4 gaskets will drop the compression too much.

Thanks Mark.

I was advised to use 1.6mm triple layer gaskets? But I am no expert in terms of compression ratio. Ive just got a very basic understanding of it.
With the thinner type (is that 0.8mm?) what sort of cr will that give?
How much is too much when using the sti 3/4 gasket and what thickness are they?

Thanks Ticky

Thin is about .6mm. 1.6mm is the STi3/4.

Generally, the thick gasket will drop CR into the 7's, and the thin mid 8's.

Personally I would rather run higher, than lower compression. Better off boost response, and ptontially better off boost fuel economy.
