Hi everyone, just got my new car and am well chuffed, its a MY02 bugeye.

The only drawback is i dont like the orange blob thats in the headlamp (indicator) i know i can put silver bulbs (flash orange) in there but its the orange blobby thing that tints the lights......is there anyway of taking this blob out?? so i can have nice chrome headlamps untill i get the money for the conversion.....

Also i want to de-badge the rear, are the badges held on with double sided tape? or are they in the bodywork as well? (hole in bodywork per letter some companys do it)

Could you please let me know asap so i can sort everything out tomorrow.

Hi Pinklady, I've de badged the rear of mine, its easy enough, you can either use a nice peice of plastic to prise off the latters or you can cut the glue with dental floss or similar, then get some tar remover or petrol to get rid of the residue.

To get rid of the orange bit (detango) you need to remove your headlights and put them in the oven (minus all sensitive bits) at about 150 til the orange cracks. Then just use a screwdriver and chip the stuff out.

To be honest it might be worth just hangin on til you get the conversion. I got the prodrive hellas and they are the mutts nuts!!!

De-badged the back of mine too - just picked it off then cleaned off the glue.

Mine is a JDM with STi HID lights - look and work much better, but very expensive. Changed the side orange indicator for clear - and those stupid side reflectors for clear indicators.

Yeah side reflectors are already clear changed b4 i got it..

On my old fezzy to detango the headlamp you had to run arround headlamp with a hair drier untill all the glue had melted, prise glass off and then take the bit out. i was looking at the lamp today and it looks like the orange bit will pop out easy enough, but wanted to make sure first......

So the reason for sticking it in the oven is to melt the glue.... Correct?

Once i can melt the glue and get in the headlamp i should be able to take the orange blob out...... correct?

Just a thought, i think a few people may have de-tangoed their bug eye lights before then getting morette etc, if you post up a wanted thread in "wanted" there may be a few sets knocking around :)

Yes sticking them in the oven at about 120-130 melts the glue allowing them to be prised apart with a flat head screw driver. You can then remove the orange bulb cover - but be careful not to mark the delicate reflective surface. Then just put the units back in the oven to soften the silicone again and press together again. If you want complete peice of mind then run some additional silicone sealent around the join before re-sealing - I found I didn't need to as plenty on there anyway and no condensation problems etc with my units.

Some say to not bother with the oven method above and just break up the plastic bit inside the unit and shake out the bits - I would recommend against doing this because I don't see how you can avoid damaging the reflective surface this way.

I did mine this way and you are right. I damaged the reflective surface but IMO you can't really notice the marks when they are back on but it does bother me knowing there are scratches on them.

I wouldn't mind buying another pair and shoving them in the oven.:)

I scratched the surface slightly in one of my units trying to break up the orange bit and that's when I decided to go the oven route. Doesn't show but might as well spend the extra time putting them in the oven to get the best possible result.

I was going to mate but you don't want to know what they offered me in the end. The day I went to collect he said the best he could do was £6000:Suspiciou

That was £300 less than the berlingo Van. There was no way I was driving off in a Citroen and leaving a subaru behind and being £300 out of pocket. Did he think I was stupid?:cuckoo:

you can use a small heater instead of putting them in the oven, i did and it worked a treat.:)

Glad your keeping the Scoob Paul. Sounds like the dealer was a bit of a joker - 6k for your car!? I know you've got to do a lot of miles in it now, but atleast you can take some consolation from the fact that the de-cat and remap has gained you 2-3mpg. :)
