best way to get 330-350 bhp

i have a my99 rb5 wr sport only mods are magnex exhaust and fully de catted what mods will be best to get me to 330-350 bhp i would rather stick to a top mount intercooler if possable and can the prodrive ecu be remapped the same as the std my99 ecu.

will i need to change the exhaust for a bigger bore pipe as not sure if magnex is only 2.5" as was fitted to car when i bought it which turbo will best suit the above power also is there anywere recomended in the northeast for having the work carried out

I'm not an expert but I would have thought you'd be looking at:

-2.5" full decat should do do it
-Uprated panel filter. Std intercooler would be on its limits I'd imagine though; I'd be looking at a larger one from APS or similar
-You'll need a bigger fuel pump
-Probably larger injectors- 330-350bhp will be right on the edge of the std 440s
-Probably a uprated FPR
-Bigger Turbo e.g. TD05 16G
-Would suggest porting the headers to bring the spool thresold down as much as possible, you have a lower rpm limit than Stis.
-Probably a 3 port Boost solenoid
-uprated turbo hoses e.g. Samco
-Budget for a new gearbox, the UK one will most likely give up the ghost at those levels.
-Remap of the ECU via Ecutek.

I hope you've also budgeted for

-Uprated brakes
-Uprated suspension.

Reliable 280-300bhp relatively easy on a MY99. much over 300 things start getting pricey if you want to do it properly IMHO.

If you'd be happy with 300 ish (which would make for a very quick classic, it only weighs 1235kgs) Andy F does a TD04 hybrid that'll reach into the 300's you could use the std injectors and FPR with that IIRC, no need for the 3 port solenoid too and the gearbox should be ok. This would be rather cheaper than aiming for 350bhp.

Alternatively, buy a JDM Sti and tune from there, makes things much easier!! ;) :D

Have a word with a few tuners though!

How long is a piece of string? They vary and, of course, the limit depends on useage! Some give up on Std power, others put up with around your target figure, most don't! Having the std clutch may be in your favour cause it'll give before the gearbox will. i'd expect it to start slipping at the power lvels you're after sooner rather than later. You'll then need an uprated one, like the Exedy organic one from APi [chalk up more points for me David :D-private joke :D]. unfortunately, as soon as you get a clutch that's man enough, its putting strain on your box.

The concensus appears to be that if you go over 300bhp/lbs ft then you shouldn't be surprised if the gearbox fails! You play, you pay, I'm afraid! ;)

300+ BHP

I have a UK MY00 (same spec as your '99) and without spending a huge ammount of cash and not pushing too near the limmits of the car, I have got 315bhp and 300lbsft (RR at Tegsport) by doing the following:- Full decat system using Revolution exhaust (not too noisy), Samco hoses, K&N panel filter, VF23 Turbo (standard on 22B), Ecutek remap by Andy Forrest (the master!) The car is now transformed and is more what I expected it to be!! It can easily keep up with all but the most heavily modified new-age STI's and I can finally shake off Civic Type R's and Mini Cooper S's! About to fit P1 suspension and Gold Brembo callipers off a Spec C, so hopefully it will soon have the stopping and handling prowess to make full use of the extra power. I of course could have bought a new age with PPP, but it's fun to modify and I really prefer the look of the Classic! Have fun, no matter what you do!!!!!!!!!!!!!

think i will go for a lower power goal more like 300-320bhp so for that i take it i will need
fuel pump
turbo (which will be best)
re map

will the std intercooler be ok or will a better top mount be required as i dont want to fit fmic as want to keep std looks, if better tmic is required which would be recomended as a direct replacement dont want hassle of fitting sti 8 also would i need to fit a larger scoop with better tmic

cheers for replys so far benny
