Anybody else had problems with Scoobynet trying to install trojans?
 

Just was on here 5 mins ago and all of a sudden it shut down, and my anti virus software came up with a trojan (can't remember the name).
When I restarted my browser it sent me to some strange site called freecomputertestonline and it had added itself to my favourites and set itself as my home page.
So I deleted it from favourites and came in here where I got a warning that this site (scoobynet) is trying to open the free computer test site.

Just wondered if anyone else had had any problems?
This happened to me before with some thing called Spyware Quake and I ended up having to wipe my entire computer to get rid of it, but now I have about 4 different anti virus programs and all the windows defender stuff, so it won't happen again hopefully!!!:mad: :mad:

never had a problem with it before, got Bulletproof software adware and spyware blocker and never get a problem.
Over the last few days Scoobynet has refused to work with Mozilla Firefox and now these things are happening.
Just wondered if the mods knew anything?

You have been visiting too many porn sites. Watch where you're surfing and don't blame Scoobynet when your computer gets infected :rolleyes:

believe it or not I'm not actually a fan of porn, I'm not blaming Scoobynet I have a sneaky suspicion its my browser.
Scanning it now anyway so it should get sorted out.

Scoobynet does not, has not and never will install any trojans, spyware or anything else on your system. :)

I would reccomend sticking to one piece of antivirus software as having more then one make may render most of them useless :)

You will find this web site does in fact contain various types of spyware most low risk, You will find that nearly ever web site that has sponsored links and adverts install forms of spyware from low to high risk, as for Trojans and viruses it to is very possible with this being a forum that Trojans and viruses can be posted in links ect. without anyone knowing. I have yet to find an internet forum that does not contain some sort of spyware most being of low risk that is.

As for recommendation on antivirus software I have yet to have come across this and I test security software from antivirus to firewalls as well as programming them and have never came across a problem with running more than one antivirus software at a time. :wonder:

I was not blaming Scoobynet in the slightest, just trying to get to the root of the problem. I think its all sorted now, but might go for a destructive restart anyway.
Last night I was trying to fix it and the missus walked in just as a pop up from some adult friend finder came up and she was like what are you looking at you perv?
Anyway since then I've deleted all the crap and it seems ok.

I'm in the IT security business too and there is a considerable difference between a dodgy link posted by someone or a 3rd party company doing something nasty and Scoobynet deliberately trying to install trojans or spyware - which it categorically does not. I wouldn't have anything to do with the site if it did.

I have yet came across Scoobynet trying to install Trojans, but try as we may some nasty people try and pass on Trojans in all sorts of ways via web browsers ect.. As for the spyware if you are in the IT security game you will know there is a vast range of spyware from low risk to high risk, that we all pick up when on the internet and so far the only spyware I have came across when visiting this site has been low risk stuff i.e. Double-click Cr4p that you pick up when surfing the net.

You will find a lot of people using the website have little or no idea about computer let alone security software and as soon as the littlest thing pops up on the virus and spyware checkers they panic and think there doing the right thing and letting every one else know about it or are just asking for help.

I think you will find (please correct me if I’m wrong) the danwrx1980 was only asking others for advise and not say his problem was due to Scoobynet.

Quite right, two or more AV products will sit on the same machine, but please understand that every one of them will scan files when opened, the performance hit is obvious. Another thing to consider is if you run two AV products you could have one saying you're infected and one saying you're not, so either trust one or go the full hog and install three :)

I never for one second tried to blame scoobynet at all, as I said in a previous post I suspect my browser had something to do with it, but it is all sorted now anyway. I understand that spyware and malware is present all the time and is actually an important part of the internet, as when you set passwords and the like it is this software they use to identify you.
What happened was i was getting pop ups from everywhere from casinos to lesbian bondage sites and it was only after I had been on SN.
However, I have since pdated mcafee and got a program from my bro who is a Computer Scientist at Teesside Uni, that has cleared it all as it wiped all the crap out of my registry (something that most products don't seem able to do in my opinion and experience).

i was looking through scoobynet last week when my comp hit me with a trojan horse! the anti-virus software i had told me it was there, but couldnt do nowt about it. i'm not saying it came from this site, just bad timing maybe?
