Petrol mower fuel mix.

Can someone set me straight please. Need to cut the lawns tomorrow.

I have inherited a petrol mower, 2 stroke, and need to know what mix of fuel to use. I have some unleaded petrol and some 2 stoke motorcyle oil. What mix ratio do I use?:wonder:

Cheers in advance

25:1 for cheap oils, up to 50:1 for the more expensive oils.

This is what I use in 2 stroke chainsaws etc but buy specific Stihl oil.

If yer going to drag race it against your neighbours machines then i recommend some octane booster for a slight edge!!:thumb:

Depends on the age of the mower really. If it's pretty new I'd go for 50:1 but if it's a bit ancient give it a bit more oil. If it fills your garden with smoke when you start it up you've put too much in!!

If it is old, it could be as high as 16 of petrol to one of oil!

My neighbour got his old mower out on Friday - He asked me what mix to use. I told hom that 1:50 would probably be OK, but a little bit extra oil would do no harm. 20 minutes later I noticed his house has disappeared in the smoke and that his mower was sounding really rough. Turns out he had misheard me and went for 50/50 with a bit more oil to be on the safe side

Its not really gonna do it any harm to put a little more in for good measure but no less than 25:1 is probably the best.

Mower running sweet as a nut with minimal smoke.:luxhello: Thanks for the pointers guys.

Just got a small fuel leak to sort out now but all is good.

This may seem like a very anal reply, but the ratio that you pre-mix the 2 stroke oil is actually quite important.

...ok,moreso on m/x bikes etc than lawnmowers;)

but nonetheless,as the oil doesn't burn in the combustion chamber, the more you add to the petrol the leaner the mixture will effectively become. It all depends on what the carb is jetted for.
