But seriously folks...

A Scooby owner told me that the distinctive noise is created by the exhaust being of different lengths from the manifolds.

MX5 is a straight four twin cam.

So, surely all I have to do is split my manifold into two sections and extend the pipe from two cylinders for about a foot?

If it worked I could make a fortune cause MX5's sound cr@p, even with a sports exhaust.

Sponsor? anyone? :) :)

LOL :D

If you find one - I may be interested . Though I'm not sure the wife will let me make her MX5 sound like my Scoob. (Shes already turned down a supercharger :D)

Whilst the exhaust manifolds do make a difference, I think you will find the biggest 'source' of the burble is the boxer (horizontally opposed) engine ;)

Not sure if it can be done, as I think it's the combination of flat 4 AND the unequal length manifold. Interested to find out mind, as I could mod my wifes yaris to sound like mine :D

Why not go the whole hog and buy an Impreza?

Why not record something really exotic (Italian and >8 cylinders), then get a massive stereo and play back the sound effects.

Why not just put a scooby engine in either the MX5 or the Yaris?

Have you not seen the CD's that integrate with your car stereo?

They demo'd one on Drivel or TG.

You basically choose what engine sound you want and it works with the engine to produce the sound.

They sound great :)

The burble is caused by the manifold. Nothing to to with engine configuration. The explosions are passing out through the zorst at uneven time intervals, caused by some of them having to travel further than others. To prove this, put you ear tight against the engine block and you will find that the engine fires evenly. You can also buy equal length manifolds which increase turbo performance slightly but make the car sound like a blowdryer

Unplug your HT leads from the Plugs and replace in a random order...

...Maybe miss replacing one too.
