Still can't believe this is being released. Presumably as there's now too much of a power gap between the 330i and the new V8 M3.

Any stats available yet? Presumably power will be about 300bhp?

Just how weak is that front end? And how heavy does the rear look over the wheels?

I used to think the current 5 was a dog, but with familiarity I think its one of the best looking saloons out there.

The new 3 is even growing on me, although I feel it is a mess at the back (the Touring is much better looking). Last generation 3 series saloons are now starting to look old (M3 excepted)

I have a gut feeling the new M3 will be quite something.

I'm glad I'm not alone in liking the look of the new 5 Series. I also like the styling of the 1, 6, 7, and Z4. After years of dismissing BMWs, I could see myself with one now, even allowing for the so called, image problems...

3 Series Coupe? Fine by me.

Like the saloon, the rear quarter panels look very odd indeed, looks like the pic has been put into photoshop and distorted using the transform tool.

But certainly an improvement on the saloon (especially the restyling of the Mitsubishi rear end).

Front, like the saloon looks like a cartoon characature of a old 3 series. And personally, with the exception of the X3, I think the 3 series saloon is the weakest bangle design so far. At least the other creations had some degree of uniqueness. The 3 series saloon, just seems a muddled up mixture of the other models, just severely toned down to please (ex)mondeo man's tastes.

The coupe does redeem the 3series in many ways, but that's partly because coupes always look better than their saloon counterparts anyway. ;)

And a TURBO petrol? :cuckoo: I really hope BMW know what they are doing with this, and not sacrificing off boost, low end power and smooth power delivery and fast throttle response for the sakes of the crude "surge" and lag. They will have already completely removed any chance of a an instant throttle response by fitting the turbo...although the fly-by-wire throttle or the valvetronic hasn't helped things since they started using them. I just hope it doesn't behave like all the other other turbo petrol cars in production...but that really is clinging to straws.

It just looks like a bog standard 318i to me.

Most BMWs will be turboed now as will mercedes. They both say its the best way forward to continue increasing performance whilst getting better MPG.

Well as long as they keep 10.5:1+ static compression, then at least it would stay efficient off-boost and have some form of poke in them before the turbo spools. Never going to happen though ;)

There are plenty of cars out there without turbo lag.

No, "reduced" turbo lag :)
