Minimising swirl marks on treated paintwork
 

The car (black MY06) looks great as per previous piccies and comments in this forum, but have been noticing the usual swirl marks happening on the body.
Obviously this isn't the actual paintwork as the Concours P3 protection has been on it from new.

Is there a product out there which can ease out these flaws without stripping down the layers of sealant?

Stone chip wise (ones that go right through), after 18,000kms I can count about 11 which are small, so the paint protection is doing a fantastic job. :D

Adding more layers of sealant or even a glaze then more sealant should help to fill any surface defects, but I'm surprised you think the defects are in the sealant layer - I've never come across this before - if defects are there, they are nearly always in the surface of the clear coat, indicating that the sealant layer has been eroded. However, I'm not familar with the paint protection system you mention, can you provide more info in it (web link)? I don't know of any product that will 'ease out' such marks if they are indeed in the sealant layer, so my only advice would be to add more product and see if that does the trick. :)

the paint protection stuff is all pretty poor IMO

they do not do what they say on the tin, unless you run the proper clear film type stuff

if it is swirly, it will be in your paint IMO

My father had 'superguard' or whatever it was called put on his new bmw before collection. The finish was shocking and the swirls where bad. This cost £200 odd!

only paint protection I know that helps prevent stone chips is Armourfend and the like

SM, the swirl marks are definitely in the protection stuff as I examined the car prior to it getting the protection put on it.
It had been in the dealership one week and had one wash.

I've tried searching on the website where the stuff came from but there are no proper details of the product. It comes through the Subaru dealership as part of the after care products.

A car hit me a while back and caused significant damage all the way down the side of the car. There was absolutely minimal damage done to the paintwork (the bodyshop was impressed!). Where the paint would normally have been stripped off due to the impact, it was just the sealant which succumbed and was damaged but not right down to the paintwork so it must be pretty effective! You could see where the sealant had taken the impact as it was peeling off the car.

This stuff sounds weird - is it a sealant (wipe on, wipe off product) or a film (stuck down)?

if its a film it is likely to be the 3M stuff as used by Armourfend or Paintshield maybe??

swirls in my black mica paint were mostly due to the crap on the paint itself...

used some stunning products to sort it..

1) wash using "auto bathe" by Zymol

2) dry using "super absorbent shammy tingy" - zymol

3) Zymol lube fluid and "lehm clay" (seems a bit like plastcine) to gently rub over the body - until it all goes smooth and slippery ( LOL )

4) zymol "auto cleanse" - like an "oxy" face wash for the car..... :)

5) Zymol 100% carnuba wax applied with fingers (heat from fingers melts the wax and u smear it on and buff it off...)

the result is utterly fantastic. The swirls are often due to loads of crap on the paint - like tree sap and that sort of thing- get that off PROPERLY and things look a whole lot better... my car's gr8 - when it's clean...

you sure it was not the top layer of laq/clearcote coming off??

PB, apparently the stuff is sprayed on and the finish is just like glass, it is definitely thicker and more effective than a film version. I am cleaning it tomorrow so will try and get a few pictures of it.

Mikey Ace, it isn't the paintwork that has the swirl marks, it's the paint protection.
