anyone point me in the direction of a tutorial for the above??

Or a step by step guide

Easy way...1 tripod, take two pics...one with bonnet removed, one with it inplace.

Paste 2nd pic into the 1st pic in photoshop and set the layer transparency to 50%

Jobs a goodun ;)

Errr, don't call removing the bonnet the easy way!!! 2 shots (1 with bonnet up, 1 down) set transparancy & use the eraser tool....
