Clutch judder - another post
 

I had some clutch judder during the winter months when changing from 1st to 2nd for the first time on really cold mornings, after that gear change it was always fine until the next cold morning.

I searched previous posts and on SN and my mind was put to rest because it is obviously fairly common with Subaru's and it wasn't getting any worse.

However in the last few days it has come back, even in warm-ish weather and after the car has warmed up. It is now doing it pulling away in 1st and the judder is more violent.

It also seems to do it more on hill starts (figures I guess) - any advice? :confused:

I don't really want to be shelling out for a new clutch with tax and insurance due in the next few weeks. :cry:

it could be the clutch release bearing, but to change that the gearbox has to come off anyway, and if the is only a few 1000 miles to go on the clutch then it would be worth replacing.

if you get a new clutch release bearing use the one of the STI, as it is meant to be less prone to it.

Hmmmmm. I guess it's a case of put up with it until it gets too bad and I bite the bullet and buy a new one. :wonder:

Does anyone have any thoughts on the Exedy Organic clutch that API do? It sounds like they've received some good reviews following the GB's - are there any alternatives that perform well and are a similar price?

You might want to try doing a full bore launch. Deposits can build up on the surfaces which can result in clutch judder. The clutch is designed for a certain level of hard use and it solved the problem for me.

Also sounds like fun :D I might give that a go tomorrow.

also i have one of those exedy clutches, (the stage 1 one)

it done lots of hard launches @ 320ish BHP (I like play lol) and over 20,000 miles, not had a problem with it, no slip at all.

it also can spin all 4 as well :norty: ,

Did you have it done at API? I know David's setup is good so I don't have a problem with the expertise/service that I'd get from him (probably better than anywhere in all honesty), however I like the setup at Powerstation and am going back there soon to get my up and down pipes fitted so I'd like to get the work done there at the same time (if it needs it).
