After having a nasty bosh on by fireblade a few years back I have decided to bottle riding again and go for a car. I did try get back on, and got a cbr 400 but still, kept getting flashback of my smash so sold it.

Being new to hi spec cars ( got me a impreza MY99 ) I am pleased as punch, now on roads I drive slow and clam (have ever since the crash witch was not my fault incidentally, batty old hag decided not to look as she stroked her cat - hay I said cat not pu*sy) but I am no stranger to fast riding/driving and have got the car to take it to the track to drive it as hard as I am able to)

But my first encounter with a cozzy owner was a little disappointing, well confirmd what I had stereotyped.
NOW I apologise to the many cozzy owners who are very sound people, but.

As a biker (well ex biker) I have fallen into the trap of laffin at fast cars as they could never even come close to us (on the rods in wales we used to ride fast on) I have since come to appreciate its different form of speed, and thus respectful of fast car drivers (on a track)

But my conceptions of cozzy owners being lads 20-35 ish one earring and base ball cap parked in car parks showing of to mates in saxos proved very true other night.

Just out for a quick burger at Mac d`s and passed a dude in the parking lot standing outside his cozzy (probably been standing by it all night) and he yells "I eat Subaru's fro breakfast", I actually giggled at how pathetic he was, but it unfortunate reinforced that stereotype I had built up.

My point is, im sure your not all like that, but there is a reason why many drives don’t take you cozzy drivers serious (even if your car is), and its coz of a holes like that.

When riding a bike the straight bits are the boring bits, true speed comes from cornering, not straight line 0-60, its so boring. That’s why I got a impreza, cornering with a mighty grin on my face and the car feeling responsive and sharp, not wheel spinning in a mac d`s carpark.

Its al personal choice at the end of the day, but I prefer handling ability, and the ability to progress quickly through corners and turns, over brute unusable peformance

Serious question for respectful cozzy owners (I value your opinion) handling on a rwd 300-400 bhp car? (it must take skill) whats it like? And how much focus is paid to cornering over boosting engine performance?

Drive save dudes, and next time on the roads give us Scooby owners a wave we are really not so different (most of us)

unfortunately the second hand value of the 2wd sapphires has dropped to as low as £1500 for a rough one so they now have become affordable to the boy racing n o b s at the local mac donalds. a friend of mine who i class as a boy racer has just bought one for £2000. the sad thing is msot of them wont know how to look after the damn things or cant afford to main tain it properly. my mate can only just put enough fuel in his to put the fuel light out!

Same thing is happening with Scoobies now that they're getting into the 6k mark for early models, unfortunately posts like the one at the top will be about Impreza owners in time as a direct result, I'll just have to go buy myself a Porsche when that happens.

Im a 20yr old and just about to get my First Cossie. I am not a stereo typical 'Boy racer' As i love my Cars mainly RS's. I have paid a bit more than 2k for mine and its a bit more than factory 200bhp:D Now i can afford the car and can afford to fix it, if it went wrong! but i hope it dont:D Im looking forward to getting delivery of this car as its be a lengend i have dreamed of getting since i was in school!

Unfortunatly you do get some Pr1cks but hey you cant help that can you with any type of car! My mate have just got a improted scooby recons its 300bhp+ and i would like to see how the two cars compare but of course it would be on track! not in Tescos carpark :rolleyes: oh and its my first RWD car :eek:

Gald to here i may be wrong about some cozzie owners :) yeh you get tossers in all cars, just seems the greatest percentage seem to go for fast fords, makes it a shame for the real car enthusiasts who got nice cozzies to be labelled with the same stereotype.

this seems to be a case not of scooby vs cozzi, but more like **** driver vs non **** driver :)

Now this is interesting. I'm 25, cossie owning, baseball capped cruiser. Yet I dont consider myself to be a menace to society like some do :rolleyes:
I will admit to chucking the odd donut round the back of Halfords on a Sunday night, but at the end of the day, if its what flosts your boat then why have a problem with it?
I've been a cruiser since I was 19. I'm 25 now and I still love it. I go cruising every week all year. No matter the weather, I'm out there. BUT. I've had to put up with everyone from my employer to the police telling me its infantile and pointless, but if I had the chance to do it again, I would change nothing. I have made the best friends I will probably ever make at cruises. the people who meet there anre amongst the safest you can get. I have frequently entrusted my life to these people on the roads and that trust has yet to be betrayed. The comment from the cossie owner was prolly a joke and should have been taken as such IMO.
I have also had the time of my life at cruises up and down the country. The things you see at cruises make you laugh, gasp, shake your head and wonder how its possible. Sometimes, very occasionaly all four :).
I can name 5 cruises right now which I will remember till that day I die. Simply because of what went off there. experiences like that cannot be set up, bought or even reproduced at a legal cruise. They can only happen on the spur of the moment and at these kind of events.
The atmosphere at cruises are the best thing about them. Everyone is friendly and chilled, I have only ever seen one fight at a cruise, but even that was laffed off in the end. The cars might not be the best in the world, but the people deffo are and when it all goes right (loads of people, big carpark, no police) then a real party spirit develops which to this day I cannot get enough of.
At the end of the day its down to you. I admit cruising is a curious subculture, but if you are prepared to go in there with an open mind and no aggro, then I'm sure you will be pleasently surprised. Cos at the end of the day cruisers and everyone on this board loves cars, and ith a start like that, it cannot go wrong.
I love cruises. I will be a cruiser till the day I die.

Never been on a cruse myself, and to be honest never read max power or dreamed of owning a nova or anything like that when i was a kid (well im 25 know, and currently trying to get my Phd, but do drive a scooby coz i love speed, addicted to it from bikes)

I dont see the point of cruses (but thats just me- like you said mate, each to their own) but id much rather be in a car on my own and drive it, dont cair what it looks like or what its reputation is, JUST THE FEELING OF SPEED, and nothing else. i like to scare my self half out of my whit's LOL. (well i used to on my bike)
But I understand where you coming from about the sub culture, ive been teaching and training in Ninjutsu for over 13 years now, and I have friends there that I trust completely, we all need a sense of belonging yours is the cruse, mine well its budo (Japanese war) don’t expect you to understand my love of hitting people, so its only fair that I respect your love of crusing and respect ya for it J

Hay welshy boy :) i live in the midlands now :( CRAP ROADS, may be this is why cruses were invented, to enjoy a car when you have crap roads? but i use to live in Swansea area, now there are some serious roads for driving there :) i often go home as n excuse to dap the car around late at night on my own.

And to be honest i don't see myself as a car fan, not really interested in them, i am a driver fan, just like to drive. Maybe that's one of the differences.

Of the RS Owners I've met, they were all a good bunch of Lads. Met them at Goodwood (and other tracks) when I was on track days as I was goading them to get it on themselves (for their own good !) I hear the Hampshire Group's got right into track days since.

Anyone who turns up to track days with the intention of driving (then or in the future) is alright in my book, and I couldn't care less what they drive :)

Must admit, I also have never understood cruising, ICE, concourse and all the other non driving stuff - but whatever whets your whistle :)

Cat Flap you are so so so so so right..........im 24 and i had a 2wd rwd 330bhp cossie.........It was flippin so hard to handle co the back end just wanted to go all the time, like u said the striaght bits are the boring bits.........but in a cossie the stright bits are the fun bits but wen it comes to handling there cant and will neva touch the handling of a proper scoobie.......

but like u say.......some cossie owners are safe ppl.......

A sorted Escort Cossie will be as good as a Scoob, if somewhat slightly different in its manners. If thats not the case, why are soooooo many Escort Cosworths STILL winning at club/national level against Scoobs and Lancers??!!!

the image of the two cars is totally different.
I worked at Cosworth (in design) for three years, and always wanted a Sapphire, but the image always put me off.
In the end I went for a Supra Turbo (a bit lardy, but bloody strong when I wrote it off) and I've now got an STi impreza - similar performance to a chipped 4wd sapphire or an escort, but a much more civilised image.....
the engine's nowhere near as reliable though.....

don't agree with cruises (and I'm 29, not some old git).
they just make the rest of the public / the police (even) less tolerant of anyone relatively young in a fast car.

i think you get your typical "boy racer in mcD's" with every type of car subarus cossies novas everything really. Its all down to ****e rustbuckets going really cheap their are plenty of saph cossies, rst's and even sbarus going cheap, i know how you feel tho if i had enuf money id love to buy every chavd car and just scrap em!

Don't understand the comment about straights being boring bits for bikes? I cream bikes on everything BUT the straights so surely this must be the fun part for them (i.e. when they put miles on me in a few seconds)

The Subaru Impreza Turbo was voted most reliable car in the world for 5 years in row by JD Power.
And Ford have to be the worst!!!!!!!!

I used to work in the car industry and the amount of times I've heard of STANDARD Cossie engines going bang and other things breaking is far in excess from Scoobys I've heard of going bang. And the only reason Scoobys go bang, is people dont look after them and tune them to the hilt!!!
