Bypassing maf on my98

How hard is this to do? what are the pros/cons of getting rid of the maf?

TonyBurns 14 April 2006 04:21 PM

MAF= mass air flow meter, pro's..... nil
Con's, blowing your engine up.

so is there no way of running the car without it? what bhp is the maf capable of handling before it has to be upgraded?

banny sti 14 April 2006 07:16 PM

You will need a ecu that will allow you to get rid of the maf such as a motec or link.

slammedmind 14 April 2006 07:17 PM

will the power fc do?

banny sti 14 April 2006 07:19 PM

Unfortunately the power fc wont let you do this, i run this ecu on my car and pound of pound is an excellent piece of kit. The MY98 maf is strong and not as prone to failing as the mafs on the MY99-00 cars.

cool thanks for the info mate

You can run the power FC on MAP only with the addition of a MAFsim convertor.
It is not necessary on a pre 99 car however until you are in the 400+bhp/twisted turbo region.

As already mentioned, the pre 99 cars are generally reliable with respect to mafs.
