Cosworth heads on a 2.0lt
I have a fully closed desk EJ20 motor with a 2.2 stroker kit and was wondering if it is possible to fit the Cosworth heads to it, in place of Std Sti heads.

Although they would physically fit, the combustion chambers are a larger diameter (to suit a 99.5mm bore of a 2.5, not the 92mm bore of a 2 litre) and could at worst not seal on the gasket fire ring, or at least not leave you with sufficient squish area for sensible combustion.
It would be far more cost effective to have an existing set of heads flowed, ported and upgraded...the cost would be lower anyway, including a set of cams. |

i have never heard of any failures due to them, is it a quality problem? i was looking at using a set in a 2.0 (sti) i have but now you have me worried! |

Tim that was kind of what I expected. I have had my Std Sti heads ported flowed and am running HKS cams but am not totally impressed with the results. So next thought was to fit a JDM head - well at least untill I saw the Cosworth unit (I am a sucker for Cosworth) and the impressive Graphs on Iain's web site Iain I though they did, but couldn't pick up anything on their web page and all other sites (US generally) only talks about the EJ25 head. So is the 2.0 head they do, similar spec of the 2.5 |
Mike, have you got vernier cam wheels fitted? Do you know if the cam timing has been correctly set? If the answer is yes to both of these, consider a cam change rather than a complete head change

Mike, they are exactly the same spec as the 2.5 heads but start from 2.0 castings. They will also have 2.0 Cams available soon as well.

Tim the short answer is no, but I am running the HKS adjustable ValveCon Cam kit with HKS cams which in turn is wired into the HKS F-Con VPro ECU. This setup gives you in car real time cam timing adjustment.
However if I compare my Dyno's to the HKS equivalent running a similar setup (2.2 stroker with HKS twin scroll turbo) to me, I am finding that I run out of puff before they do. The only real difference in setup that I can see, is that all their info is based on the JDM Spec C heads which appear to flow better. I was therefore considering fitting a set of Spec C heads but then in doing some reseach came across the Cosworth setup. Thanks for the info Iain look forward to the web updates. |
