my wife has informed me she would feel much safer if she didnt rattle about in the seat like a rag doll(she's only likkle, bless her!).

so,to that end,I would like to get her a 3 point harness that i can use with my standard seats(uk spec my97).is there an insert available for the slot in the seat, and can anybody recommend a harness that uses the back seat female for the seatbelt,so i can unplug it if someone is in the back and she can use the factory fitted belt.

cheers,steve

Steve, I tried this idea for a track day harness but got nowhere. Put a post on here but nobody had the answer. I concluded that the only way of doing this was to buy replacement seat-belts and fixings, cut off the ends of the harness and get the seat-belt fittings sewn back in their place. Loads of hassle and the Subaru belts etc were several hundred quid (most of which you throw in the bin). Unless you can cut the right bits off a scrap car for sensible money, it's a non-runner.

However, it's not hard to fit (and remove) a harness using eye-bolts, which sounds like the answer for you.

Let me know if you want more info.

Richard.

Okay, not much to it really. Get yourself a 3-point harness with clip-release attachment fittings. Demon Tweaks do several 2" jobbies for £40-50. Check that it comes with three eye-bolts, if not, add them to your order. Eye-bolts are like normal seat-belt retaining bolts, but with a big hoop welded to the head for the clip-releases to fit into.

Remove rear seat base (just two bolts). Remove one of the rear belt fixing bolts and replace with the eye-bolt. Replace seat and that's the rear done. Personally, I'd be happier with a four-point harness for extra security and you can then adjust the rear straps so it pulls square. That's what I've got, but your choice. I'm not sure on the legality side. Anyone else know?

Remove the belt fixing bolt on the door pillar and replace this with an eye-bolt. You need to unlip the plastic trim for this and ease the carpet out of the way, but it's not difficult.

For the fixing on the transmission tunnel, unclip the plastic trim on the rear end of the seat runner. This reveals a threaded hole for you to screw the third eye-bolt into. Well it does on my UK00 car.

You might need some thin washers to use as packing so that the orientation of the eye-bolt is just right when tightened up.

Clipping the harness in is real easy. Getting them off again is harder than it looks as the clip-releases are designed not to come off by accident. Might chip your nail varnish ;)

You can now use the harness, or the normal seat belt, or both together if you like.

Hope this works for Miss Daisey. Either that, or get her a booster cushion :D

As long as it has a kite mark (e marked) then it is road legal, just ask them when you order it. OR you can have the spare one I have. I bought one from Demon Tweeks complete with eye bolts and the quick release catch if you want people in the back. It has never been fitted cos I can't seem to find a good console side mounting point on my MY93WRX. I presume you have the later type console?

Cost me £57, give me £35+postage and it's yours.
Demon tweeks code 04018 on page 95 of 2001 motorsport catalogue.

It's red by the way

If you want it, just drop me a line

Steve, mail me your address and I'll get it of to you. I can't confirm if it will fit your model but if you do a search, there have been loads of threads about harnesses (none to show how I can fit it to mine though :( )

Speak to you soon
