Have you sold your RB5 wheel yet http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/threa...ThreadID=39479
I'm in need of one after this http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/threa...ThreadID=50663 Stefan |

Sorry M8, sold the wheel a couple of weeks ago. I have replied to your thread in Wheels, tyres & brakes aswell. When I bought a replacement RB5 alloy back in 1999 when car was only days old it cost £155 + vat with about a four week lead time! Don't know how bad your wheel is but I believe some of the more capable wheel repairers can work wonders on damaged wheels. apparently, the crucial area is where the tyre contacts the wheel rim. Good luck! Den |
No worries, thanks for the quick reply. As you can see the damage is bad, but I think it's repairable. There's a bloke coming from Chips Away on Thursday to give me a prognosis.

That doesn't look too bad....

Skunk,
I know, but the picture doesn't do it too much justice. You can't make out the chunk of tyre missing from the sidewall. Hopefully the bloke from Chips Away will say the same thing on Thursday. Stefan |
Stefan,
One of the main things to check IMHO is that the wheel is still running true. If it is then check there are no cracks on the inside of the rim, then if it seals on the rubber. If these r all ok then hell yeah get the rim patched ;) Got some pix of unrepairable wheels from hitting kerb stones in the middle of a dual carraigeway, the rims only appear to have a small lump on them but when they were checked for running true they were approx 25mm off true  binned ;) *** Remember this is a personal opinion based on experience and under no circumstances should it be taken as gospel. If unsure consult a specialist. *** my std disclaimer :) L8r m8 Pete |
Pete,
Thanks for the info. The car feels fine; almost as if nothing had happened. I've got my replacement tyres (BIG thanks to Micheldever) and there someone coming tomorrow to check out the alloy. The tyre doesn't look too bad, but given that the sidewall too some damage I wouldn't feel confident driving it. I'll ask the tyre fitter if it's worth keeping as a spare. Stefan |
