Bought an Ericsson T39m and found it had GPRS so decided to do a trial subscription through Cellnet (3.99 p/m + 2p per kb). GPRS is connected but I am having trouble accessing the service. Error message says APN is wrong. Anyone know what the APN is for Genie GPRS WAP? I'm gonna call the helpdesk tomorrow but ... well, I just trust you guys more ... :)

IIRC the current 'consumer' solutions only allow WAP access and do not allow you to connect your laptop up to the phone for a _real_ net connection.

Business tariffs do allow connections via laptops.

Be interested to know what you think. My 8210 is a bit shabby now and the T39 looks like the obvious replacement :)

Thanks. I got it sorted out in the end. All I wanted was to be able to connect to WAP services, not to connect up a laptop. It's all a bit underwhelming to be honest and unless I can find a real use for it I don't think I'll bother to continue paying extra for GPRS. Anyone know any good WAP sites?

The T39m seems like a pretty good phone. Easy to use, good features, small and light. I had a Timeport before, which was solid but the menus are really fiddly.

GPRS is still at the very very beginning of its life so GPRS specific content will be few and far between. I *think* it will be big in the closed user group style custom application written for PDA/Notebooks. e.g. any sort of roving employee (courier/sales/service etc.. filling in forms on a PDA which instantly update the databse back at base.

I hope it makes it through to mainstream mobiles etc. It has to better than wap

Someone mention "Courier" & "GPRS" & "PDA" in the same sentence??? ;)

hehe
