Fuel light comes on ...... average driving .... how many miles before you stop?

Pete

DrEvil 22 October 2001 04:37 PM

potentially you have 8-12 litres left when the fuel light comes on, dependant on MY' .... base that on you MPG and you'll know how much you have left.. MY'00 seemed to be 10ltrs, and MY'01 seemed to be 8-9ltrs.

Theoretically, you chould have a gallon or 30 miles worth of fuel left when the orange light comes on, but its usually a little more than that (or less depends how hard you are driving) ;)

10 Litres would = about 45 miles for me then (MY00)

Anyone ACTUALLY ran dry??

Pete

Most cars seem to have big reserves. Mine has a 55 litre tank but the most I've got in, when the gauge is just below empty is 46 litres! Never run dry thank goodness :)

MRK 22 October 2001 04:54 PM

Run dry, never, hah. Well actually yes, right in the middle of a single track lane 10miles out of Newquay. We were covoying to this years Run to the Sun when traffic got bad so we detoured, with the express notion that we find a petrol station.

Well we didn't and for 3 miles she coughed and lurched then just stopped dead with the best trip meter reading ever of 353miles.

MY00 has 9litres of reserve, I always work on 40miles left in the tank when the light comes on.

Been wondering recently how much is left. I have a MY99 and when the gauge is at the bottom the most I seem to fill-up with is 49-50 litres - which will explain the 10 litre reserve. Good to know!

Richard.

Yes, but, can you use up all of the 10 litres left over, or will the receiver not pick up the last 5 litres or so?

Wrexy.

A whole convoy of Scoobs (well seven) had lights on going down the M1 after Beford last time - and the record fill up was 58.5 litres - and here's me thinking a Scoob had a 55 litre tank.

Most got between 48-58 litres in - so I would reckong on having 10-12 litres left when the light comes on.

Anyone ACTUALLY ran dry??

Yep!:o On the M1!:o When I had only had it a couple of weeks, that's when I found out a MY96 doesn't have a fuel light, Doh!:o

Mine usually takes 45 litres to fill when on the empty mark (50l tank)
