Ramoving rain guard gunk
 

i asked this some months ago and got various replies, but I still haven't found anything which works. I took the broken rain guards (is that what they're called?) off my ageing classic, and they've left sticky gunk right along the top of the windows and A pillar.

I've tried most chemicals I can think of, scraping and sanding, but nothing really touches it without damaging the paintwork.

I may have to fit some new guards to cover the mess - does anyone know where to get the for sensible money?

tried petrol (Optimax!), but there's too much rubber stuff still stuck to the glue, if you see what I mean. Need to scrape it off really, then tackle the glue, but can't scrape it off without wrecking the paint

you can get plastic scrapers in painting/decorating shops. that should be alrite to use on the paintwork, if your careful :thumb:

hi m8. (wind deflecters) i think they are called.

i did mine two weeks ago and wished i never had. it dont mater what you use the paint will still have marks on it. even if you get all the sticky glue off you will still have a weathered dark line there!

what i did first was get the hair dryer on the plastic and the deflecter came off very easy. its the crap it leaves behind thats hard to get off.

get some WD40. a plastic window ice scraper this wont scratch your paint work when your trying to scrape it off. and some furniture polish.

apply plenty of wd40 then scrape off the glue. dont do any more than say 3" at any time. lots of elbo grease is needed here. wipe any access off with watered down cloth. any small bits of glue that is left take off with the furniture polish.

have you tried fairy liquid and sugar?? and rub it on gently :)
